Grading the Tigers
Daily Sports Writer Bradley Handwerger grades Auburn’s performance in its 17-14 win over Nebraska on Monday, giving the Tigers a letter grade from A+ to F in four categories.
OFFENSE: C
Normally, 178 total yards won’t win a game. Running back Kenny Irons never got going. Quarterback Brandon Cox again ran for his life. Only receiver Courtney Taylor stood out. He gets an individual A.
DEFENSE: B+
Auburn allowed 120 first-half yards, then woke up, allowing 110 the rest of the game. The unit buckled its chinstrap when it had to and won the game for the Tigers.
SPECIAL TEAMS: A
John Vaughn kicked the game-winning field goal into the wind. Tristan Davis had a brilliant 43-yard kickoff return. And Tre Smith didn’t make any mistakes on punt returns.
OVERALL:A
The game looked ugly from an offensive standpoint, and borderline great on the defensive side. For Auburn, getting to 11 wins is all that matters. This will give Auburn a good boost for the off-season.
