Austin girls, Decatur boys team win in golf

Austin High’s girls golf team scored a 43-stroke victory over Decatur on Wednesday at Point Mallard Golf Course.

Austin shot 121 to the Lady Red Raiders’ 164.

Sloan Davis paced Austin by carding a 34. Teammate Kristin Askew shot 39, and Francie Caradine shot 48.

For Decatur, Kate Graham shot 49, followed by Claire Fisher (57) and Haley Wenzler (58).

Meanwhile, in boys play, Dectur took a 14-stroke win over the Black Bears.

Decatur totaled 157, led by Andrew Lowry’s 38, followed by Bill Nabors (39), Mac Hennessy (40) and Braxton Rainey (40).

Austin scored 171, including a 37 from Zack Gourgeot. Trent Shell shot 43, followed by Jeremy Payne (45) and Kevin Hines (46).

Softball

East Lawrence 13, Brooks 9: Jayda Terry singled four times and drove in three runs for the winners.

Kayla Gardener, Lashae Shelton and Mackenzie Hill each had three singles. In addition, Gardener and Shelton scored three times.

Jayla May singled twice and accounted for two RBIs. Kristen Alexander singled twice, and Rachel Norton tripled.

East Lawrence will play Brooks again Tuesday at home at 4:30 p.m.
