LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Clemon’s actions assure Bartlett’s re-election
To The Daily: I work and live in Eva and see firsthand the good Sheriff Greg Bartlett does for our county. When a federal civil rights judge (appointed by President Jimmy Carter) rides in on his white horse 24 days from retirement and listens only to inmate testimony, something is bad wrong. The civil rights judge then discredits two health professionals who stated the inmates were getting a balanced diet. How is it that a judge with no experience as a nurse or dietitian knows more about a balanced diet? The sheriff never had a chance in this case. I have read up on our civil rights judge and found that U.W. Clemon would believe the inmates over law enforcement, health care nurses and even a licensed dietitian with 28 years of experience, no matter what was stated. The issue was all about how all Alabama sheriffs, not only ours, make money from the food program, not the fact they had a corn dog. The judge used the fact that Morgan County was under a federal consent decree and he had a way to throw his weight around and make headlines. Clemon had the power to make national news by locking up an Alabama sheriff overnight and didn’t care about which sheriff it was. He wanted to get the issue in the news, get the law changed and jump-start his private practice. Clemon even wrote President Barack Obama a letter bragging about what he did before his retirement. In my opinion, Clemon did Bartlett a favor in the long run; he guaranteed his re-election in 2010. Mike Hopper

Great article. You are 100% correct.
Mike, what does the U.W. mean in your statement,"I have read up on our civil rights judge and found that U.W.".
Bubba loves a mystery.
Test
I don't agree with how Bartlett handled his situation although, the judicial system is far better without UW on the bench. Nothing more than a racist bigot in my opinion.
Come, come Russell, we all know that a black cannot be a racist bigot, that's reserved for us white folks, haven't you read that in the media before?
A licensed dietitian that approves corn dogs and koolaid three meals a day ought to have their license revoked.
Kay: Until you can ignore skin color and attribute faults to a person's character rather than his race, you, too, will be a racist. How do you know, from Russell's post, he's one of "us white folks"?
Russell: I am familiar with Judge Clemon's career, and nothing in his record leads me to believe he is a racist or a bigot.
To his own admission he waited until the election was complete so that Obama could appoint his successor. That shows me that he is intolerantly devoted to his own opinions. I have also heard from several attorneys that he gave little or no weight to the laws or facts and that it was nearly impossible to achieve justice before him. From these circumstances I have acquired my opinion.
You are exactly right. He has done his job and inmates shouldnt get feed steak and eggs for doing wrong at least it wasnt bread and water.
