Lawrence hospital official arrested
MOULTON — A North Courtland officer arrested the chief executive officer of Lawrence Medical Center after he refused to take a sobriety test, according to Lawrence County sheriff’s records. Deputies booked Tom Dunning, 43, of 216 Englewood Place S.W., Decatur, into the Lawrence County Jail on Tuesday after the officer charged him with driving under the influence and failing to yield for a stationary emergency vehicle. Both charges are misdemeanors. Dunning has been CEO at the hospital for about two years. Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said state law requires drivers who refuse to take a sobriety test to spend at least 24 hours in jail. Dunning was eligible to post a $500 bond at 11 p.m. Wednesday, the sheriff said. Brim Healthcare Neal Norwood, who resigned as chairman of the Lawrence County Healthcare Authority following the board’s last meeting, said Brim Healthcare of Brentwood, Tenn., consults with the hospital and is responsible for Dunning’s employment. Norwood said he did not know if the charges would affect Dunning’s contract. “The authority board didn’t hire him,” Norwood said. Gene Wright, who is Brim’s regional vice president, said he didn’t know about Dunning’s arrest until The Daily called. Wright said all he could do was confirm that Brim employs Dunning at the hospital. North Courtland Police Chief Alex Taylor and the arresting officer were not available for comment. According to the arresting officer’s report, on Tuesday night Dunning failed to move to the other lane as Alabama law requires while the officer had a vehicle stopped. No sobriety test When the officer stopped Dunning, he refused to take a sobriety test, the report states. He was arrested at about 11 p.m. and brought to the jail. The report does not say where the stop took place. Dunning worked for Attentus, a consulting company that operated the hospital until the board terminated its lease in March 2008. The board requested that Dunning remain as CEO before the hospital signed a contract with Brim Healthcare.

If this guy had been a State Senator from Cullman, then this would never have been in the Daily..
wrong, The article about the STATE senator from cullman did appear in the Daily
doesn't anyone notice that they take you to jail for standing up for your constituional rights, namely the fourth amendment. so this means if you have not been drinking and you refuse to take the test, you go to jail anyway. what a country. sheeeshh.
If you had not been drinking you wouldn't refuse the test.
thats the same lame excuse all people of your beliefs use.
thats not the point. the point is that when you try an excercise your constitutional rights, you are penalized. apparantly you have not read the bill of rights or you do not care. (assuming you do know what the bill of rights are) its because of people thinking like you that we are in the grip of 1984. if you aint drinking, you don't need the test. and why would i need a sobriety test if i aint drinking? it still boils down to illegal search and siezure under the contituion.
