wreck
kills two
MOULTON — Bonnie Lou Lewis didn’t like to stay in one place long, said her eldest son, James Lewis. He said his mother would best be described as “free.” Bonnie Lewis, 48, and Michael Dewayne Borden, 35, both of Moulton, were killed Thursday in a wreck with an 18-wheeler at about 7:20 p.m., one mile south of Moulton on Alabama 157. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured, according to Alabama State Troopers. Lewis said his family is originally from North Carolina but lived in Decatur until about five years ago. Bonnie Lewis was unemployed, James Lewis said. According to her obituary, she had worked for Gary B. Trucking as a truck driver. She was born in Georgia to Lela Slay and the late Bobby Slay. Borden had worked at Golden Poultry. His uncle, Ronnie Borden, said he had been on disability. His survivors include his mother, Mary Francis Knoshak of Gordo, father James Henry Borden of Moulton and two sisters. Micah Coffey, Lawrence County coroner, said Borden and Lewis were killed instantly when an 18-wheeler struck the vehicle they were in. Borden was driving south on Lawrence County 213, at Alabama 157, when the truck struck the vehicle on the passenger side, Coffey said. Visitation for Borden is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, with burial in Union Hill Cemetery. Visitation for Lewis will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at Lawrence Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday.
