Opposed to sales tax hike without a vote

To The Daily: When Hartselle officials started talking about a new high school a few years ago, they said it would cost $20 million. Not long after, it jumped to $30 million. Now they say $40 million.

I wonder if they had anything to base these estimates on or if they just pulled the numbers out of thin air. When they eventually do let bids for the school, how much do you think the bids will be for?

Right. All the contractors know they are expecting to pay at least $40 million so the bids will be $40 million or more. I disagree with a few people on the City Council being able to raise the sales tax without the people being able to vote on it.

This will not only affect the people in the city, but all county residents as well as anyone who shops in Hartselle. Also, will the tax go away after the school is paid for? Not likely. It will be there from now on, just like Decatur’s. I strongly disagree with raising the sales taxes against the will of the people.
