Lawrence let employee insurance lapse
MOULTON — An oversight temporarily left Lawrence County employees without insurance, County Administrator Peggy King said Monday. “I know that that’s hard to believe, but that’s what happened,” she said. The November bill was due Nov. 15. King said she mailed bills for October and November on Nov. 17. Commissioner Danny Kerby questioned King about the payments, and said doctors told county employees who had appointments this week that their insurance was invalid. As of 10:30 a.m. Monday, employees didn’t have active insurance, he said. The Guardian Life Insurance Co. of America canceled the county’s insurance Nov. 1. King said she found out about the cancellation Friday. Issue resolved King said at a commission meeting Monday afternoon that a representative of the insurance company told her the issue was resolved and employees had insurance. Kerby said he didn’t know if the insurance company had conflicting information because the county had insurance from Davis Vision, which isn’t the county’s insurance carrier, but is a subsidiary of Guardian. Kerby and Commissioner Bradley Cross agreed that paying bills should be a top priority. Cross said King should set aside bills when she receives them and make payments as soon as possible. King then left the meeting to retrieve a bag she said is usually filled with mail. Monday was a light mail day, she said. King said the county has 72 bank accounts and receives a large amount of mail daily. Office staff must also process payroll between other payments, she said. “The bottom line is, we need to verify with our insurance company that we do have insurance for our employees,” Kerby said. King said an insurance company representative would send her an e-mail verifying the county did have insurance.

ACCOUNTABLE. That is what the Administrator needs to be. And the County Commission needs to hold her to that. She just got a $4,000.00 raise and a contract extension. For what i do not know.
No they do not need additional employees. THe County commission needs to let go anyone over three people in the commission office. There has been three people or LESS doing that job for ever with no problems. From 1985 till 2008 the commission office ran fine with three employees, Administrator, Assistant Administrator/ Grant person and a payroll clerk.
The commissioners needs to be asking the question why is it that all of a sudden we need six or more people to do what three or less has done for fifty years? Has the work increased that much or is there a personel problem a qualification problem or trainingin problem? The problem is most certainly not a need for additional people at the commission office.
The people there just needs to do their job and quit trying to change everything all the time. Everyday they want to change something and do something different just creating more work and confusion.
TO MR. DANNY KERBY, GREAT WORK. KEEP UP THE GOOD JOB THAT YOU ARE DOING IN TRYING TO FIX THIS MESS THAT WE OBVIOUSLY HAVE IN THE COMMISSION OFFICE. I JUST HOPE THE OTHER COMMISSIONERS WILL FINALY SEE THE LIGHT AND JOIN YOU IN FIXING THIS PROBLEM EVEN TO THE POINT OF MAKING A PERSONEL CHANGE IF NECESSARY.
Qiut making excuses and do your job. how did three people do the same thing for 25 years with no proble. the big problem is MICRO - MANAGEMENT.
Are you kidding me???? If I was a County Employee, I would rally all other county employees and SUE the heck out of them. This is a huge JOKE! Does the County Commission realize they, I repeat THEY, are the laughing stock of Lawrence County.
As our illustrious "I don't live in Lawrence County" native mythbuster said in one of his posts..."That shill republican appointee Danny Kerby"...Here's your sign!
you dont have to live there to see this error. let george......i mean kerby do it.
its election time, time for all politicians to make everybody happy.
wonder what kind of big victory the shill will get, last time he amassed a whopping 35 percent, this will be a landslide with 36 percent.
i just dont like anyone appointed by the governer, no matter what county, or office. most of them cant find their bu** with either hand...if im wrong they will have to prove it. i do own an acre or so in lawrence county, just use it for a tax write off. now if it was wet.......i would build something, but that will never happen
Amazing...really...
Only two years ago they fired an employee who they "said" was not doing her job...or paying bills on time (mind you this was during the time she was on sick leave for 3 weeks). This was also during the time that there was a "change" in the guard (I'm sure the county is STILL feeling the pain of that administrator), and there was only two employees in the office.
She is still in the process of trying to clear her name from the damage their lies have done! Who are they going to fire now?
