Limestone grand jury indicts alleged robber, others
ATHENS — A Limestone County grand jury indicted a man authorities said robbed a convenience store to buy drugs, another charged with abusing his child and a third accused of using his wrecker to steal cars. Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt said the grand jury indicted Ricky Wayne Worthey, 31, of 21366 Mooresville Road, Athens, with first-degree robbery. McNatt said Worthey robbed B&S Grocery at knifepoint in August and used the money to buy drugs. The clerk’s uncle spotted Worthey after the robbery based on his niece’s vehicle description, which led deputies to him, McNatt said. He is in jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. The grand jury also indicted Michael Thomas Haney, 21, of 24055 Bethel Road, Elkmont, on one count of first-degree receiving stolen property, four counts of second-degree receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and first-degree theft. Drove wrecker McNatt said Haney drove around Limestone County, Huntsville and Pelham in his wrecker stealing vehicles that had broken down on the interstates and highways. Authorities arrested him in August. He is in jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. The grand jury indicted an Athens father for child abuse related to a July case. Athens police arrested Patrick O’Neil Colwell, 21, of 804 N. Clinton St., Athens, after an officer found his 4-month-old son unresponsive with bruises on his nose and shoulder and a red mark on his neck. The baby’s mother told police her husband shook the baby during bath time, according to police reports. He is in jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. These were other indictments listed on Tuesday’s reports:
