LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Confession letter a scam designed to delay justice
To The Daily: The Alabama Supreme Court postponed the execution of Thomas Arthur, who was scheduled to die for the 1982 murder of Troy Wicker Jr.
I can only assume the reason for the stay was that another inmate submitted an affidavit stating he committed the crime that sent Mr. Arthur to death row.
Why did this inmate wait all these years to come forward and admit that he was the one responsible for the murder of Mr. Wicker? Could it be a scam to delay the process? I think so.
There is a simple way to test the truth of this confession. Tell the inmate that, if what he says in his affidavit is true, he will be executed in the place of Mr. Arthur, as planned.
The family of Troy Wicker Jr. has waited 26 years for justice to be carried out and that is long enough — actually much too long.
