ORANGE BEACH (AP) — A teen skateboarder speeding down a parking garage ramp was struck and killed when he lost control and fell into oncoming traffic.
Orange Beach Police Chief Billy Watkins Sr. says 14- year-old Hunter Sorensen was wearing safety equipment at the time of the accident Sunday.
Officials say Sorensen picked up speed as he came down the ramp, crossed a bike path and veered onto Perdido Beach Boulevard. There was another skateboarder with Sorensen, but he was not injured.
The teen — a freshman at Gulf Shores High School — was pronounced dead at the scene and the unidentified driver was not charged.
