Decatur police say a woman attempted to shoplift more than $500 in merchandise from Belk on Friday.
Police said Melanie Lynn Mardis, 37, of 515 East St., Moulton, was caught on video surveillance at the store.
Police said officers and Belk loss prevention officers saw Mardis exit the store with the merchandise without attempting to pay. She was stopped and arrested.
Mardis was charged with second-degree theft.
