It means Saturday. If the event were next week or later in the month, the story would have included the numerical day of the month.

I was set to go to the Alabama Veteran's Museum this Saturday 9/4/10 with my grandson who is six years old. The article was in the Decatur Daily last Sunday 8/29/10 and we planned all week to go. It turned out the event was held last Saturday 8/28/10. Good going Decatur Daily. I agree with Wanda that it would have been nice if they would have told what date because just like Holly, I believed it to mean that the event was to be held the next Saturday following the Sunday that it was in the news paper. I would have been really pissed to have drove all the way to Athens to see the gun show. Luckily at last moment before we were to leave I went on line to the Museum's website to check about if there was going to be a fee charged and found out that the event had already passed.
