In the grand vision is there any plan to do light electric rails anywhere in North Alabama? Maybe a line between the downtown campus and the main campus? How about a safe bike path over the river?
The place has been open, what, 2 weeks? 3 weeks?
I have said before this art center in my belief will not bring much life to down town. These are students whose money is already tight, They will be in class maybe an hour or two at a time then leave the downtown core area. Not much chance this well help much for down town business.. To me it was another Bob Riley giving money to North Alabama before leaving office like the robotics center that is not what it promised either
putting light rail between the two Calhoun campuses is about the stupidist thing I've heard of.
.
I mean, building a "light rail bridge" over the Tennessee River alone would be $20-$50 million.
.
and these calhoun kids aren't going to give up their cars. Why? because they don't live near either campus to walk to the rail
The city should distribute their incentives more equally. Why not provide some money to restore the Northwest shopping area? Decatur has an untapped revenue source over here and yet they do nothing with it!
i can already tell a difference in the downtown. It is a great thing to have the arts center.
Bob's remarks seem on target. I like the rail idea.....until you have to consider the money. There is no way to do it for less than $30 million.
Northwest shopping would be great in the fall and winter but those bulletproof vest are really hot in the summer
there IS a railroad bridge, and the tracks run right past the new art center....just saying.
Patrick, I laughed so hard at your very facetious posting. Please do not give the politicians any ideas. Taking 400 Million from the Trust Fund was bad enough, but If they decide, in their never ending quest to show how North Alabama is not populated by hillbillies, to make light rail (insert any big money project here) their next cause celeb then watch out. There will be no red line that they will not cross.
