Athens State University professor Pamela Keller has been selected to create a bronze memorial statue in Pulaski, Tenn.
The Giles County Leadership Class of 2013 in Pulaski selected Keller, who works at Decatur’s Alabama Center for the Arts.
The memorial in Sharewood Park will be life-sized of a man sitting on a park bench holding two dog tags close to his face in his left hand while in meditation.
His right hand will be holding a small American flag. The park surroundings will include a series of flag poles with more American flags.
There would be room on either side of the bench for people to sit with this man and reflect on memories of veterans.
An ASU professor since 1981, this is Keller’s 15th year as a public sculpture bronze artist. Work on the sculpture will begin in two weeks with unveiling planned for early 2014.
Fundraising is now under way. Donations can be made at the Giles County Chamber of Commerce.
