ATHENS — Jordan George tossed 3 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out four, as Athens opened the season with a 9-3 win over Austin in the Athens-East Limestone tournament.
Adam Harvey came on in relif of George and closed out the game with three innings of solid relief. Harvey allowed three hits and one walk while striking out five.
Offensively, the Eagles were led by Austin Hambright who had two hits and and two RBIs. Brett Kerr had two hits, while George, Lucas Brown and Cole Clayton each added singles.
Athens will continue tournament play today against Ardmore.
Athens Bible 12, Decatur Heritage 5: In the season opener for both teams, losing pitcher Pierce Thompson (0-1) pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, two strikes, five walks, six runs, and three errors. Zach Armstrong had two singles for the Eagles, while Thompson, Taylor Nichols and Sawyer Holland had one each.
Decatur Heritage will visit Fairview on Friday.
Muscle Shoals 14, Hatton 4: In the TimesDaily Classic, Michael Walker (1-3) had a double and one RBI. Cody Houston (2-2) had a triple, a double, and two RBI, while Tyler Gooch (1-2) had a walk and a double.
Losing pitcher Taylor Latham (2-3) pitched two innings, and had two singles and two stolen bases.
Hatton will face Central on Feb. 22.
Hartselle 13, Buckhorn 1 (6 innings): Dakota Folwer went four innings to earn the win for Hartselle in the Huntsville-Birmingham Challenge.
Easton Chenault had two hits and two RBIs for the Tigers, while Chase Gillott and A.J. Owens added two hits each. Chris Brown had a two-run home run and Tyler Phillips had two RBIs.
Hartselle 6, Hazel Green 4: Deacon Aldrige had three hits and two RBIs as the Tigers closed out opening day with a 2-0 record.
Chenault had two hits and an RBI in the win, while Brown added two RBIs.
Tillman Landers, Griffin Steelman and Aldridge each tossed three innings for the Tigers, who will continue the tournament today at home against Hoover.
Hartselle falls to Arab: Noah Holladay, Mason Norman and Mason Whitehead each posted singles wins but it wasn't enough to carry Hartselle past Arab.
The doubles combo of Norman and James Ashley provided the Tigers' only doubles point as Hartselle fell to the visiting Knights 5-4.
In girls action, Katie Beth Bole got a win in No. 4 singles but Hartselle dropped the match 2-7.
Julia Holladay and Ivana Ellis got a win in No. 3 doubles for the Tigers, who will face Decatur on Wednesday.
