The article SHOULD note that the reason is because Morgan County sale tax rate is 1% and Limestone's is 2%. Those that live in the Decatur portions of Limestone County vote for those that decide the sales tax rate of Limestone County.
Correct John. the article is poorly written, but the city has grown to expect that from the Daily.... You are correct that Limestone county tax is 1% higher (for incorporated areas) than Morgan County's.
.,
Decatur City areas in Limestone county have been at 10% since Sept 11, 2001, when the Decatur City Council led by Pat Woller raised our taxes without public notice.
.
Most people dont' notice this because there really isn't any shopping in Decatur portion of Limestone County. Just a few gas stations and Apple Lane Farms. but it would have royally sucked when/if they built Bass Pro Shops and you went to buy a big item, like a $1200 rifle and it was 10% tax. you'd have to pay $120 bucks in tax on a $1200 purchase.
