Austin drills Hazel Green
Girls Class 1A, Area 16 girls tournament

Troy Harris and Everette Mayes recorded a pair of double-doubles, leading Austin High past Hazel Green 70-50 Monday night in the Black Bears’ regular season finale.

Harris led Austin (17-7) with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Mayes tossed in 12 points and 10 assists.

Austin opened the game strong, building a 35-23 lead by halftime.

Camron Reedus finished with 15 points for Austin, and Tobias Payne added 11.

Louis Sullivan scored 23 points to lead Hazel Green.

Austin hosts the Class 6A, Area 16 tournament, which begins Friday. The Black Bears open against rival Decatur.

West Morgan 78, Priceville 61: Brandon Roberts poured in 42 points, leading West Morgan past Priceville.

The Rebels (23-5) had two players finish with double-doubles. KeAndre Swopes scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Dustin Morgan added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

West Morgan led 40-25 at halftime.

Hayden Prentice, Mark McLendon and Chris McNutt led Priceville with 10 points each.

Lawrence County 54, Wilson 49: Jesse Childress finsihed with a game-high 20 points to lead Lawrence County.

Donivan Wheeler added nine points for the Red Devils, who led 22-15 at halftime.

Kenneth Henry led Wilson with 12 points and Austin Oakley added 11.

Austin 71, Hazel Green 45: Takisha Jordan paced Austin with 21 points as the Black Bears cruised past Hazel Green.

Austin used a fast start to pull away early, building a 49-31 lead by halftime.

Taylor Edwards led Hazel Green with 10 points.

Brewer 53, Hartselle 28: Riley Northway recorded a double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to lead Brewer.

The Class 5A No. 1 Patriots (27-1) held Hartselle to 11 points in the second half.

Cheyenne McLemore tossed in nine points for Brewer, while Mallerie Drinkard added eight.

Allie Roden led Hartselle with seven points.

Lawrence County 51, Wilson 40: Adrien Coffey paced Lawrence County with 14 points to lead the Red Devils past Wilson.

Whitney Woodard tossed in 11 points for Lawrence County (23-6), while Tori McDaniel added 10.

Cierra Edwards led Wilson with 20 points.

Priceville 65, West Morgan 53: McKenzie Parker and Jada Beverly led Priceville with 16 points each, helping the Bulldogs overcome a two-point halftime deficit.

Emillee Cunningham finished with 12 points for Priceville, while Alex Moore added nine points and 12 rebounds.

Sydney Sanders paced West Morgan with 15 points, and Kyrstyn Chambers tossed in 11.

Red Bay 44, Hatton 30: Class 2A No. 5 Red Bay trailed 18-10 early in the second quarter before rallying for its 24th win.

The Tigers (24-3) scored the final 12 points of the first half and pulled away for good in the fourth quarter with a 15-4 burst.

Kasey Sparks topped Red Bay with 13 points and Lexi Lindsey added 11 points.

Waterloo 67, Athens Bible 38: Bradi Morris scored a career-high 28 points to lead Waterloo past Athens Bible in the opening round game of the Class 1A, Area 16 Tournament at R.A. Hubbard.

The Cougars jumped out to a 33-15 halftime lead and cruised to victory in the second half.

Waterloo will face R.A. Hubbard in the semifinal round of the tournament on Thursday while Athens Bible’s season has come to an end. Baylee Atkinson scored 14 points and Melea McFall added 12 for Waterloo in addition to Morris’ 28.

Anna Price led Athens Bible with 18 points.
