To The Daily: “Disappointed and ashamed.” These were the words used to describe two people on the Hartselle school board by a member of that same board.
The two people were Randy Sparkman and Venita Jones. These two people were voicing opinions about how much money is being spent on the new school and how we are falling behind on fixing all the problems at the Sparkman Street school so the middle school kids will have a school next year.
There are a lot of things that need to be addressed about the new school before any children are put in there. I will ask the questions most people want answers to: Is there a crack in the foundation? Where are all the cars going to park? Is there water in the auditorium?
We understand some people want their children to graduate from the new school, even if it is not ready, but should we sacrifice their safety for that? I don’t think we should.
Also, what about the roads to handle the traffic? Some of it will be coming out on Alabama 36 and “deadman’s curve.” It’s called that for a reason.
We need to wait until all these issues are resolved and the school is safe for all the young people of Hartselle. That school is not going anywhere. Let’s be patient.
I’d like to thank Mr. Sparkman and Ms. Jones for their concerns about safety, health and the money we’re spending. They need to keep up the good work.
Shame on Jennifer Sittason for airing her feelings about two people trying to do the right thing.

Thank you, Mr. Carter. I agree with you 100%.
Patience, Grasshopper!
No serious safety issues.
Get the kids in there! Past due!!
I am very disappointed and ashamed. How long have we waited? I have a 12th grader this year. I fought hard for a new school. Deadlines keep being pushed back. I think its only fair to let this class graduate from the new school. They have been promised and waited patiently. Lets do what they need to and get these kids in there. It is becoming huge disappointment. Everyone has been planty patient. Time to make some noise now
If there are issues that need to be handled, they should be done now instead of having to close the school later because of a major repair that could have been fixed now. My brother is a senior this year as well, but I would rather have the school 100% finished than to see him graduate from a partially completed school. Don't get me wrong, I think it's crappy that they set such an aggressive deadline and got people's hopes up; but, it was an ignorant idea to move all those kids during the school year anyway. The timeline should have been managed better. In my opinion, ole Reed wanted the school open before he retired in June, doesn't look that way though.
Thank you, Dick Carter, for speaking up for those of us who completely agree with Mr. Sparkman's and Mrs. Jones' thinking in this matter. The city of Hartselle is already on the hook for the outrageous sum of $44 million for this high school, and now someone wants to add many more thousands of dollars to the tab to "fix" something that should have been done correctly in the first place. This is not the first time Jennifer Sittason has made ridiculous comments regarding the new school and how it is being built, and it would be good if she could learn to filter her thoughts a little better before she blurts them out!
dorothy your comment cracked me up!
I would rather be the last graduating class from the old high school instead of being the first graduating class from the new school. That's just my opinion and everyone knows about opinions.
Thank you Dick Carter, Venita Jones, and Randy Sparkman.
Be assured that my child who attends HHS will not be allowed to participate in any student based furniture or equipment moving program. You people came up with a way to pay for the new school you can come up with a way to pay a professional moving company to move any items that need to be moved to the new school. Using the students as forced labor is just as wrong as building the school without the tax payers consent. You can call it volunteer work but I'm calling it as I see it slave labor. My child will have the flu if that idea comes to fruition.
