MADISON — Bob Jones scored on a touchdown pass with 14.5 seconds left in the game to defeat Class 6A No. 10 Austin 17-13 tonight.

The Black Bears had gone on top 87.5 seconds earlier when Philip Corlew kicked a 30-yard field goal at the 1:42 mark, giving Austin a 13-10 lead in the Region 8 showdown.

Bob Jones (6-3, 6-1 in Region 8) will be home for a first-round playoff game after winning a tiebreaker with Florence for the region's top seed. Austin (7-2, 5-2) will play on the road as the third seed after its second consecutive loss.

The Patriots kicked a field goal early in the fourth quarter to tie the game 10-10 after Austin had taken the lead in the third with a touchdown.

Kevin Wright's 3-yard touchdown run had given Bob Jones a 7-3 halftime lead.

The Black Bears scored on a field goal in the first quarter to go up 3-0.
