Important dates

Thursday (Oct. 4): Last day to request an application for a regular absentee ballot, by 5 p.m. from city or town clerk.

Oct. 8: Last day to request an application for an emergency absentee ballot, by 5 p.m. Also last day to return regular absentee ballots in person to city or town clerk or have ballot postmarked via U.S. Postal Service and received by noon Oct. 9.

Oct. 9: Last day medical-emergency designee can hand-deliver emergency absentee ballot to city or town clerk by noon.

Emergency absentee ballots only issued with doctor’s explanation for medical emergency or in the event of a work emergency that arose after Oct. 4.

To be counted, an accepted form of identification must be included with absentee ballot if sent via U.S Postal Service.

If filing an absentee ballot in person, the individual must hand-deliver the ballot to clerk. Absentee ballots will not be accepted from spouses, relatives or acquaintances for individuals not present.

Signature must be notarized or witnessed by two individuals.

Applications and absentee ballots can be mailed to the following municipalities with runoff elections:

City of Decatur: City Clerk, P.O. Box 488, Decatur, AL 35602-0488; City Hall located at 402 Lee St. N.E.

City of Athens: City Clerk, 1806 Wilkinson St., Second Floor, Athens, AL 35612

City of Hartselle: City Clerk, 200 Sparkman St. N.W., Hartselle, AL 35640

Town of Trinity: Town Clerk, 35 Preston Drive, Trinity, AL 35673

Town of Falkville: Town Clerk, P.O. Box 407, Falkville, AL 35622; City Hall located at 21 W. First St.

Town of Courtland: Town Clerk, 361 College St., Courtland, AL 35618
