No sales tax for the new guys for 20 years???? Penalize those who have to move to stay in business???? It is a shame Decatur does not have more regard for existing business.

Your comment above, "No sales tax", well, you are getting NOTHING now! Look at the long term rewards. This could be the cornerstone for our next 50 years of retail & tax growth. You cannot give away what you don't have; we don't have nothing now generating $$$$

This will generate more jobs for the area and also more people coming into the area that will spend money in other areas of consumption. Good move Decatur!

Good job to all that are involved in this development. Best wishes on making it come to life.

Privatizing profits with public money. This is not free market capitalism. You should all be ashamed.

This site will be a great draw for people coming down I 65. IF you get a Bass pro shop and the right places to eat it will do well.

Some people just simply do not understand economics. Yes the anchor tenant would keep 3 percent of the city’s total 4 percent sales tax for up to 20 years, but the anchor tenant will not avoid utility taxes, taxes on purchases they make, salary taxes, etc. It is not like they are coming in TAX FREE for 20 years.

Good try Tony but some people just dont get it. That area will boom and in turn the city will grow because of it.

You people kill me. Have you run the numbers on this? No way three restaurants produce $75,000 of tax revenue each per year. Do you realize how much would have to be spent? It's like the Huntsville developer said. These numbers are puffed up. Almost $1,000 per square foot? Only if it is all gold plated. This is corporate welfare people. Nothing else. Wake up.

Dr. Tom Sisk, superintendent of Limestone County Schools, was on his way this morning to meet with unknown representatives of the deal when he stopped to make a comment.

"I have never been in a situation where a school system has been asked to help with this kind of economic development," Sisk said.

So William, what restaurant do you run that gives you the expert opinion to say no way they do not produce $75K / year?

None, Tony. But I can do math. What restaurants do you run that enable yout to comment about this if that is the standard?

I made ZERO comments about restaurant revenue/income. Perhaps you should strengthen your comprehension skills on other's comments.

Better get started on making HIghway 20 a six lane road to handle all the traffic going there. If you don't, it'll be a nother Spring Road widening that thats 10 to 15 years to do it. Just hope Bass Pro doesn't shut down iafter a couple of years. You do know they quit building 3 stores now under construction in other towns, don't you?

ORVILLE . . excellent points, on both traffic and construction. My question is what will happen to the existing stores around there (RaceWay, Chevron, Apple Lane Famrs) Will the construction and obvious roadway infrastructure changes have an impact on their business? Will access to thes curent store be negativley impacted? Gonna be interesting to see.
