City can still bail on depot project
‘Escape clauses’ built into real estate contract in case renovation gets too costly
By Ben Montgomery
Another day goes by, and Decatur officials still refuse to release the 2-year-old appraisal of the 112-year-old L&N Depot property. The City Council voted Monday to approve the purchase of the … More »

Are you kidding me Kirby? Why would you pick a fight over something like this? Just another example of the unemployable Charles Kirby flip flopping and grandstanding. Kirby would do anything to sit with the cool kids at lunch. Now it's cool to rip on Billy.

Blaaaaaaaaaaaaaah,Blah, Blah.....Typical city of Decatur politics...irresponsible!

My house appraises for around 120,000. Wonder if the city would be interested in purchasing it from me for about 190,000??? Call me guys! I'll sell!!

They'd better use that Lead-based Paint clause to get out of this contract, or else modify the purchase price in the contract to reflect the costs of the remediation. That's going to add significant cost to the project. Hopefully somebody has an estimate in hand to bring to the negotiating table.

Harselle voted to keep the railroad station and look what good it does. nothing. just a picer of property they have to maintaine and pay bills for heating and cooling.

175,000 is just the beginging for this money pit. What fool would pay that for a dilapidated building? The fools on the city council.

This is a new low for this admin. This council never ceases to bum fuzzle me. Can't believe y'all voted them back in.

bail out now...............there are better things to do with the money, again, our Sheriff's department is the LOWEST paid around. Stop cutting their budget.

You don't have to have permission from anybody to release a document that is public information. Who did the appraisal? It appears some if not all have been caught in a lie about this property and project.

What happens if you fail to comply with a Freedom of Info request?

is Kirby the guy who used to work for Ray Metzner sweeping floors?

Hey not me but someone put these dip chits back in office and now do you see what yal lhave done? I am so perplexed how folks can complain for 8 years and then re-elect the same dumbasses again. So I guess the voters that put them back in office are the real dumbasses.

I hope that the station gets restored

I don't live in Decatur anymore, but I don't understand why the city of Decatur would want to pay almost twice the appraised value of this property. I don't get it...

its called a kickback, or sweetheart deal. and its plain corrupt.

Bob, you mean Kirby actually used to have a real job?????

Depot pledges continue to roll in and the amount of actual donations is increasing at a staggering pace.

Support of this project reflects on all of us as a community.

Ann you do not pay much attention do you? Our sheriff's department IS NOT the lowest paid around and what does it have to do with a purchase by the city of Decatur?

maybe the city can turn it into a great historical site

This is pure politics, Council will cut lawn mowing on Beltline roads , will not clean & cut weeds & trim trees around city street but are ready to spend almost 1 million Dollars to buy & upkeep Old Rail Road Depot. This Council is corrupt & has raised taxes, fee & rates on everything in the name of such necessity.
