MOULTON — A Danville man died Saturday night when he was ejected after fleeing Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies and crashing his vehicle, which also carried his 5-year-old daughter, authorities said.
State troopers said Gregory Johnson, 30, was not wearing a seat belt when he wrecked at 8:50 p.m. on Lawrence County 331.
His daughter, Adriana Johnson, was in a child restraint, troopers said.
Sheriff Gene Mitchell said a deputy pulled Johnson over on Alabama 24 after Johnson nearly hit his patrol car. While the deputy was running Johnson’s information, Johnson took off, Mitchell said.
That deputy and another who had just arrived on scene pursued Johnson’s 1995 Jeep Cherokee, but lost sight of him. Mitchell said Johnson failed to turn in a curve, crossed a ditch, went through a hedge and crashed in the woods. Deputies initially drove past the crash but came back and discovered the wreck, the sheriff said.
Mitchell said Johnson was found outside the vehicle but the child was still in it.
“They got the little girl out and EMTs took her to the hospital,” Mitchell said.
Adriana was reportedly treated and released.

Thank God she lived!
What could it have been that was so bad he had to risk his childs life.
Seems like nobody in this scenario had the child's best interest at heart.
ITS GOT TO WHERE ITS GET YOUR MAN AND DAMNED THE RESLUTS
How would the deputy have knowned that was his daughter. Maybe he ran because he kidnapped the girl and was prepared to rape and murder her. If the deputy had just let him run and that scenario happened then everyone would vilify the deputy for letting him loose. We never know the full details until after an event, you cannot blame the deputy for doing his job. The sole blame on this scenario lies with the idiot who ran and led the deputies on a high speed chase all the while he could have clicked his seatbelt and possibly left the wreck with bruises and scrapes. In doing so it cost his life and I have no compassion whatsoever. Play stupid games and win stupid prizes.
Very sad....
Amen Louise.
Another person who thinks they are bullet proof and doesn't need seatbelts. Almost every week I read of someone who is dead because they didn't wear them. How many is it going to take before people wise up? Oh yes, we need to outlaw cars, they kill many more than guns do.
NA - How about taking your political agenda elsewhere, it's the internet my friend, there are plenty of message boards where you can proudly show the world just how ignorant you are. So why don't you find an article that is actually about gun control and use your backwards logic there. Just a thought...
You know you can tell when people don't know the whole story when they make comments like Louise did....FYI the Law County Sheriff knows the man and for that matter the whole county sheriff dept knows him for the most part...they knew where he lived...so yea they should not have give chase to him let him go till he got home...he was a good friend of mine had no ill feelings toward anyone a blast to be around ....yea he made a bad decision be running from the cops but dont start bashing him like he is a piece of trash
Well said Robert...
