Graveside services for Delona Florence “Toby” DeMonia, 87, will be today at 1:30 p.m. at Cullman Memory Gardens with Wayne Speegle officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
Mrs. DeMonia, who died Monday, October 15, 2012, at her residence, was born September 17, 1925, to Ambrose Alexander and Iva Aster Wadell. She was a homemaker. Mrs. DeMonia died after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Toby had been lovingly red for by her daughter, Angela Speegle and was able pass from this life to her next one while at home. She as preceded in death by her parents and husband, Ira Jackson DeMonia.
Survivors include, two sons, Jim DeMonia of St. George Island and Scottsboro and Rick DeMonia of Decatur; two daughters, Joy (Bob) Sellers of Peachtree City, Georgia and Angela (Wayne) Speegle of Hartselle; one brother, Laban James of Gardendale; three sisters, Margarel Easterwood of Arab, Peggy Sanfordof Saucier, Mississippi, and Martha Thomas of Decatur; grandchildren, Derek Speegle of Nashville, Gary Speegle of Leeds, BJ Sellers of Newman, Georgia and Libby Sellers Bowen of Pelham; one great-grandughter, Nora Jean Sellers.

Funeral for Robert Morris Knighten Sr., 59, of Birmingham will be Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home with burial in Hartselle Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the Funeral home.
Mr. Knighten was born August 13, 1953, in Morgan County, to Raymond Knighten and Marguerite Earline Engle. He passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012, at his residence. He attended the Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Knighten of Birmingham; four sons, Jamie Lynn Knighten, Robert Morris Knighten Jr., and Johnny Knighten all of Birmingham and Donny Knighten of Arab; three Brothers, Luther Earl Knighten, Raymond Knighten both of Decatur and John Nathaniel Knighten of Phil Campbell; two Sisters, Frances Earline Baker of Albertville and Ruth Priscilla Hollis of Hartselle; seven Grandchildren, David Alan Knighten, John Christian Upton, Courtney Sue Knighten, Jordan Christopher Scoggins, Hannah Iasbell Ingram-Knighten, Katelyn Hope Knighten, Jayice Lynn Knighten.

Athens
James Martin Newby was born March 8, 1922, to James Horton Newby and Cora Vessels Newby, in the Sardis Springs Community in Limestone County. He graduated from Athens High School in 1939. While attending Athens College, he was inducted in the United States Army where he served in the Artillery Division. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, serving in Germany and the Philippines.
After discharge from the Army, Mr. Newby finished his education at Athens College. Upon graduation, he opened a country store in the Sardis Springs Community and started a dairy business with his father. The dairy grew into a row crop operation with his sons.
Mr. Newby was a public servant who served on the Limestone County Board of Education, as Tax Assessor, and Probate Judge. He left public office to return to his family farming business. He was also a partner in Moore & Newby Gin, Inc.
Mr. Newby was a lifelong member of Sardis Springs Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Treasurer and Sunday School teacher. He loved God, his country, family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Services for Mr. Newby are today at 3 p.m. at Sardis Springs Baptist Church. He will be at the church two hours prior to the service. Visitation was Monday, October 15, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sardis Springs Baptist Church. Burial will be in Sardis Spring Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Tim Keenum and Bro. Jack Bailey officiating. Limestone Chapel Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Naomi Coffman; brother, Alan Newby.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Martha Allen Newby; sons, James Martin Newby Jr. and wife Martha and Jerry Allen Newby and wife Diane both of Athens; daughter, Susan Newby Ming and husband Bill of Athens; grandchildren, John Martin Newby and wife Monica, Leigh Anne Toone and husband Shane, James Michael Newby and wife Lindsay, Elizabeth Ann Crow and husband Justin, Mary Anna Newby, Jerry Allen Newby Jr. and wife Ashley, William Calving Ming Jr., Elizabeth Newby Ming and Sarah Martha Ming; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bonnie Hearn and Martha Chittam.
Pallbearers are John Newby, Leigh Anne Toone, James Newby, Elizabeth Crow, Mary Anna Newby, Jerry Allen Newby, William Ming, Elizabeth Ming and Sarah Ming. Honorary pallbearers are his Sunday School class members, Mark Craig, Rowe Croley, Bussie Smith, Jimmy Woodroof, James Bailey, Lynn Haynes, Ed Zirbel, Chuck Moore, David Dollar and Edgar Nave.
The family would like to thank the caregivers for their loyalty and loving kindness. Memorial may be made to the Sardis Springs Baptist Church building fund.

Frances Hannah Patterson, of Florence, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012. Her family will receive friends for visitation at Colbert Memorial Chapel Wednesday, October 17, 2012, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Keith Davis will officiate the service beginning at 4 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow in Colbert Memorial Gardens.
She is survived by her children, Malissa Jones (Michael), Teresa Casiday White, Walter Patterson, Jr. (Norma), Debra Bailey (Doug), and Shelia Bryant Allen (Ben); grandchildren, Christy, Michael Jr., Marc, and Matthew Jones, Michael, Nicholas, and Craig Casiday, Jonathan Patterson, Kimberly Butler, Karli Bailey, Kayla Bryant Hill, and Justin Bryant; 16 great- grandchildren; and sister, Martha Cartee.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Eva Campbell; brothers, Walter and Frank Campbell; sisters, Melba Willis, Lois Terry, and Maebell Amos; granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Kylie Bailey; and a son-in-law, Don White.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family gives a special thanks to the nursing staff at Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing Home, Dr. Ridgeway and Dr. Syed for all of the care shown to their mother; and to Jonathan Anderson with Colbert Memorial Chapel.

Funeral service for Betty “Billie” Jo White, 80, will be Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Wayne Turner officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. White, who died on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Decatur Morgan Hospital was born August 4, 1932, in Morgan County to Bill Brown and Agnes (Wright) Brown. Mrs. White was a former employee of Sexton Can Company as a packer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sebron White; her parents; a brother, Otto Brown; and three sisters, Nenola Hill, Leola Wilburn, and Bessie Arthur.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Boger Bates of Danville and
Helen McDonald of Hartselle; five Grandchildren; five Great-Grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Shane Boger, Matthew Tabarrok, Mark Damilano, Kelly Terry, Gary Warnick, and Gary Brown.
