More than three months after it closed for extensive repairs, the Decatur Public Library plans to reopen in early March.
The facility on Cherry Street Northeast has been closed since late November for a $470,000 project to replace its broken HVAC with a new, high-efficiency model, tint windows and put up ceiling tiles.
A temporary location with a limited selection of items — but no computers many patrons use — operating in the Decatur Mall will close Saturday, officials said. Library staff will restock shelves and set up computers the last week of February in preparation of reopening.
Checked out items must be turned in by April 1 to avoid late fees, however books can be turned in at the library’s outdoor book drop.
Tax preparation is available at the American Red Cross on Holly Street Northeast on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1-5 p.m.
For more information about the closure, call the library at 256-353-2993

Our library is more than a place to check out books. It serves all categories of citizens by providing research resources, , access to computers, a safe environment for young people to meet and an atmosphere conducive to learning. It also shows the rest of the world the importance our community places on intellectual improvement. It's good that our library will be back in service soon!
