The headline of this article or a statement within the article is misleading. The headline says toxie waste. The statement in the article states scientific studies say the PFC's "may have" toxic health and environmental issues. Either it is or it isn't. Also, if Decatur Utilities has no way to remove the PFC's and their sludge goes to the landfill and the leachate from the landfill is transported back to DU, the process is a constant revolving door going back and forth. I understand making the source responsible for the cost but since the sludge starts with DU, shouldn't they share in the cost of the removal process? The article states the cost would come from the landfill only. There seem to be plenty to share in this cost.
I'll bet this will be another Animal Shelter fiasco. Spending that much money will involve consultants that don't know what the hell they are doing and Designers that will have to have changes made once it's built. Overcost, mistakes, etc. will be a primary facter in this again.
Reeves is running lawsuits to his buddies trial lawyers. He is the one that got Decatur Country Club sued. He ran that case down to Beasley. He doesn't care about Decatur. We should vote him out next time.
Why don't you theives use some of the money that you are throwing away and take care of the waste. I suppose you are saying ONCE again we are to TAXED. How much more can we take. Why can't you stupid people manage on what you have which is way too much.

In two other studies, one conducted in Cottage Groove, MN and the other at a 3M plant in Decatur, Alabama, 3M found that exposed workers had elevated risk for dying of prostate cancer or visiting the doctor for reasons associated with having prostate cancer [15, 16].

Come on DD, report the facts! i f I can look this up in two minutes so can you! Let's talk about who inventivized these plants, let them pollute and risk the communities health by not doing thier research and demanding that they NOT dump this mess in the river. For the "River City" we've sure got a nasty river!
everyone applauds when a 3M or Daikin comes in and provides living wages for the community. Cities grovel and waive taxes and wink wink here's this really nice river nobody ever checks for pollutants and a docile population who won't complain if they have elevated risk of cancer, birth defects, etc. Come on to Decatur guys! Dump all you want. I can say I brought in jobs-- who cares what happens to the rest of you stupid saps and your kids fifteen years from now -- i got mine!
if you want industries that pollute chemicals, there is a price to be paid. You can 't have it both ways! uhhhh... i think 3M is kinda associated with........... yes, you got it-- chemicals!!! grow up ! either get rid of polluters or live with your toxic sludge. you can't have one without the other
