Decatur police arrested one suspect in the theft of a vehicle in November but continue to look for his suspected partner.
Lt. John Crouch, Decatur police spokesman, said Friday afternoon that David Chad Cheeks, 36, is in custody. Crouch said police are still looking for Shannon Gail Carpenter, 33. Crouch said the woman is 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He said both suspects are homeless.
A woman in her 60s reported that her 1993 Ford Taurus was stolen Nov. 7 while a local mechanic worked on the car.
“The victim had limited funds and her car was her only means of transportation,” Crouch said.
Detective Jeff Clem, who was assigned the case, located the car at a Lawrence County address.
“It had already been stripped out and was being processed for scrap,” Crouch said. “Clem developed Cheeks and Carpenter as suspects and obtained first-degree theft of property warrants for both suspects.”
Anyone with information on Carpenter should contact the Decatur Police Department at 256-341-4660.
