That's right DCS- LOWER those standards! We're living in the Age Of Obama-- We Aspire to Mediocrity!
Jerry they are doing away with ELECTIVES that's it so how does that bring Obama into it.
Good move.
Yea, that's the way to increase the graduation percentage...lower the standards!!! The graduation exam is a joke anyway! Keep it up Decatur and Alabama, before long the good jobs will go to students from outside the state and country.
Actually a good decision. We all can agree our grad rate is too low. By doing away with 4 extra credits it will help grad rate. The state requirement is 24 yet Decatur has previously required 28. Not to mention with a growing number of unconcerned parents this was a good call.
The other nearbysystems that compete with us already only require the 24 credit hours and people move there due to test scores. This is only leveling the playing field. Advanced students who want to take extra electives can still do so!
Look at it this way. Why? should a student have to attend another 6 weeks of school on a elective such as needle point or finger painting or what ever you want to do just so the school can bilk the Federal Government out of more of your tax dollars? The school gets x amount per day they are there. This decision reduces waste and streamlines the required course.
How could that possible be a negative thing? I ask you to ask I ask?
So, now it is all about the money, huh, Casinokid??
Yes tax payer money when it comes to ELECTIVES so yes it is about my and your money! This in no way lowers what is required on the subjects of Math, History, etc. It also increases the grad. rate so when other companies look to locate here we as a society can say We cut the fat off and focused on the real things.
Decatur Tell me how this is bad?
When I graduated from E. Lawrence, the requirement was only 24, so why was Decatur's 28? I don't think by requiring what is required by state is lowering Decatur's standards.
If it improves graduation rates and helps students have time to learn trades, it's a good idea. That's the way high school was before the push to "raise" standards brought about so many students who show up, try hard, but still cannot get a diploma. It doesn't help Alabama recruit businesses to have a higher number of dropouts than surrounding states.
