Decatur sweeps Athens

Jackson Fite collected three hits and an RBI as Decatur High cruised past Athens 5-1 Thursday afternoon in Game 1 of a doubleheader. In Game 2, Decatur won 8-1 to complete the sweep.

 

Drake Whitten got the pitching win in Game 1, striking out two while giving up six hits in the complete game.

Fite drove in William Woller with a single in the top of the third, and Decatur (7-5) added another run in the frame to take a 2-0 lead. The Red Raiders added another run in the fourth, and a pair of insurance runs in the seventh.

Harold Blades finished 2-for-2 with a double for Decatur, while Keith Layton had two hits and an RBI. Tanner Burns added a hit and an RBI for the Red Raiders.

Lukas Brown led Athens (4-8) with three hits, including a double. Charles Farmer had a hit and an RBI for the Golden Eagles.

Will Gann got the pitching win in Game 2, allowing three hits through 6 2/3 innings, striking out five.

Woller finished 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, while Camp Metcalf hit a double with two RBIs.

Jackson Pettus, Austin Harbright and Jordan George each had a hit for Athens.

Decatur (8-5) visits West Point on Saturday for a doubleheader, while Athens plays Lee. 

Colbert County 5-2, Clements 4-1: In Game 1, Cole White finished with two hits, while Alec Van Wagnen added a hit in the loss. Clay Russell, Cody Baucom, Van Wagnen and Chris Tidwell each scored runs for the Colts.

 

In Game 2, Van Wagnen finished with a double and a run, while Caleb Sherrill added a hit and an RBI in the loss. Russell, Hamilton, and Reed Gazaway also added hits for Clements.

 

The Colts (9-5, 0-3 in Class 3A, Area 16) play today in the St. Patricks Day Tournament in Loretto, Tenn.

Carter Corneil and Tyler Hudson combined for no hits, eight strikeouts and one walk in Game 1.

Athens Bible 20-17, R. A. Hubbard 0-0: In Game 2, pitchers Drew Ogles and Douglas Fields combined for 10 strikeouts.

Corneil finished with a triple and three singles during the two games, while Blake Cundiff also added a triple and a single in the sweep.

Hayden Phillips finished with a triple and a double and Jeb Hagewood contributed two doubles and a single.

Athens Bible (12-0, 4-0 in Class 1A, Area 12) visits Elkmont for a doubleheader today.

 Brandon Joyce, Randell Jackson, John Graves and Lee Davis each finished with one hit in the loss.

Covenant Christian 16, Lindsay Lane 3: Jackson, John Lauderback and Connor Holland each added an RBI for the Lions.

Softball

 

 Hartselle 14, Austin 3: Baylee Holt finished three singles in the win. Faulk contributed a double, three singles and four RBIs, while Leah Stephenson added two singles.

Alleah Garth finished with two singles and an RBI in the loss, while Addi McNutt added a single and two RBIs.

Hartselle and Austin (7-3-1) play in the Hartselle Tournament today. 

Ardmore 13, Priceville 2: Morgan Hughes got the pitching win, striking out nine in seven innings.

Stratton Hobbs, Kaitlynn Moore and Miranda Mitchell each finished with a hit in the win.

Brittany Marks led Priceville with three hits, while McKenzie Parker had a double and single.

Ardmore (6-5) plays in the Lauderdale County tournament today, while Priceville (1-5) hosts Walker in a doubleheader. 

Hatton 10, Lexington 0: Danya Snead hit a home run leading the Hornets in the Class 2A, Area 15 game.

Victoria Crumpton finished with a triple, and Hannah Harper hit a double with two RBIs. Carey Grace Peebles and Hillary Carpenter each added three hits and an RBI in the win.

Carpenter got the pitching win, striking out five through six innings, while allowing one hit.

Hatton (9-1) plays Lawrence County at noon today in the Lawrence County Tournament.

West Morgan 2, Westminster Christian 1: Hannah Draper got the pitching win in the Class 3A, Area 15 game, striking out 10 through seven innings, while allowing three hits. Sydney Sanders finished with a single, and Draper hit a single, double and RBI.

Kayla Moore and Lexie Green each added a single, while Briley Stephenson had an RBI.

 Good Hope 6, Danville 3: After tying the game at three in the bottom of the seventh inning, Good Hope scored three runs in the eighth to take the win.

Sloan Lindsey finished with two single, a run and a stolen base, while Morgan Weatherwax and Andrea Carter each added a double in the loss.

The Hawks (9-3) will face Haleyville 4:30 p.m. today in the Hamilton Tournament.

 East Limestone 3, Athens 2: Brittany Williams had a double with two RBIs in the win, while Kasie Suttles added three hits.

Haley Riddle got the pitching win, scattering 12 hits and striking out six.

 

 Soccer

 

Decatur 2, Florence 1: The teams were tied 1-1 at half. Max Ackley made 11 saves for the Red Raiders.

Decatur (5-3-2, 2-0) plays Grissom on Tuesday.West Morgan girls 5, Priceville 1:

Maribel Parker scored in the sixth minute, leading the Rebels to a 4-1 lead at half.

Sarah Faulkner scored the second goal in the ninth minute before Payton Parker added points in the 19th and 24th minute. Parker scored in the 71st minute.

Hannah Amos made three saves, allowing one goal in the win, while Alanna Klundt made two saves for West Morgan.

The Rebels (7-2) play Ardmore 5 p.m. Tuesday at Jack Allen.

Austin girls 3, Florence 0: Haley Knable scored two goals in the win, while Mary Cathren Thrasher scored one.

Knable and Audra Reeves each had an assist for the Black Bears, while Madison Keith made saves.

Austin plays today in the Shamrock Invitational at Cullman.

 Tennis

 Hartselle boys 5, Athens 4: Noah Holladay (8-6), Trevor Murphy (8-1) and Matt Pham posted singles wins.

Holladay and Murphy won 8-4 in No. 1 doubles, while Pham and James Ashley won in No. 3 doubles.

The Tigers visit Florence on Monday.

Hartselle girls 9, Athens 0: Elizabeth Connell (8-2), Nicholle Smith (8-0), Julia Holladay (8-0), Katie Beth Bole (8-0), Jordan Barbrey (8-2) and Ivana Ellis (8-0) posted wins in singles to start the Tigers strong.

Teams of Connell and Smith won 8-0 in No. 1 doubles, Bole and Barbrey won 8-0 in No. 2 doubles and Holladay and Ellis finished 8-2 in No. 3 doubles to complete the sweep.

Florence girls 9, Austin 0: Misaki Himuro, Alexandra Tucker, Lauren Taylor, Hikari Himuro, Chandler Turner, and Shamyla Jones fell in singles.

Misaki Himuro and Hikari Himuro fell 10-1 in No. 1 doubles, Tucker and Turner fell in No. 2 singles and Turner and Lauren Taylor fell in No. 3 doubles.

Golf

Decatur wins tri-match: Decatur shot 156, while Huntsville finished at 160 and Austin 172.

Hunter Shelley finished with a 40 for Decatur, and William Doherty shot 41.

Sean Sears shot 39 to lead Austin, while Matt Voss shot 43. Ty Haguewood and Chad Kitchens both finished with 45s.

 Ardmore wins tri-match: Lee Hodges fired a 35, and Andrew Eakes finished with a 40 as Ardmore beat East Limestone and Elkmont in a tri-match at Southern Gayles.

Ardmore shot 162, while East Limestone finished with a 189 and Elkmont shot 229.

Zac Garner shot 43 for Ardmore, and Ty Beck added a 44. Lee Fleming and Kyle Overmyer both shot 41 to lead East Limestone. Colby Holt shot 45 to lead Elkmont.

Lawrence County Red and Muscle Shoals tie in tri-match: Jesse Childress shot a 1-under-par 35 to lead Lawrence County Red in a tri-match at Deer Park.

Lawrence County Red and Muscle Shoals both shot 159, while Florence finished with a 165, and Lawrence County White shot 180.

Martin Little and Tyler Hogan both shot a 41 for Lawrence County Red, while Garrett Prater fired a 42.

Trenton Smith finished with a 42 for Lawrence County White, while Blake Bohanon shot 44. Cam Liles and Russell Porter both finished with a 47.

Lawrence County will play in the Haleyville Invitational at 9 a.m. today.
