Dominating defense for Hartselle
Tigers back on winning track
From staff reports

WEST POINT — Looking to rebound from last week’s close loss at top-ranked Muscle Shoals, Hartselle’s defense turned in a dominating effort at West Point, allowing just 11 total yards and forcing three turnovers in a 45-0 win over the Warriors.

Toby Swins led the defensive effort, recording three sacks and another tackle for loss for a Tigers defense that held West point to minus-20 yards rushing. Jalen Jackson and Garrett Fowler each added an interception for Hartselle, which improved to 5-2 on the season.

Blake Slayton, D’Andre Mack and Masio Stover each had first-half touchdown runs for the Tigers, while backup quarterback Brett Blackwood connected with Sidney Steele on a 58-yard scoring pass.

Hunter Hammock’s 31-yard field goal as time expired gave the Tigers a 31-0 lead at the half.

Steele caught his second touchdown pass of the game early in the third quarter, this one a 25-yard completion from starting quarterback Deacon Aldridge, before Mack ended the Hartselle scoring with a 16-yard run with 2:15 to play in the quarter.

Aldridge completed 10 of 13 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown, while Blackwood completed 5 of 6 attempts for 100 yards and a score. Mack led all rushers with 75 yards on nine carries.

Cullman 38, Lawrence County 0: Tyler Glenn completed 18 of 28 passes for 182 yards and four touchdowns in the win for Cullman.

Glenn tossed three touchdown passes in the first half, two to Houston Turner, as the Bearcats (6-1, 4-1) built a 21-0 halftime lead. Glenn’s final touchdown, a 20-yard completion to John Patterson, came in the fourth quarter.

Jacob Terry finished with 42 yards on six carries for Lawrence County.
