Draper leads West Morgan in Decatur

Hannah Draper led West Morgan from the mound in softball action Saturday, by striking out seven in four innings to blank Priceville 7-0 in the Decatur Invitational at Wilson Morgan Park.

Briley Stephenson doubled and stole three bases, while Haley Keaty singled with one RBI. Sydney Sanders singled and tripled with two RBIs.

Draper singled and doubled and knocked in a run.

Alexis Casteel singled and doubled with two RBIs.

Savannah Stephenson, Baylee Carpenter, Hannah Williams and Taylor Goodpastor all singled.

West Morgan (3-5-1) plays Danville 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson Morgan.

Athens Bible 5, West Morgan 3: Keaty doubled, while Kayla Moore and Goodpastor singled in the loss.

Stephenson and Sanders had two hits each.

Megan Davidson pitched in the win for Athens Bible.

East Lawrence 10, Brooks 7: Anna Kate Segars and Alex Hopkins each doubled with an RBI to put the Eagles ahead in the Hatton tournament at Alexander Park in Moulton.

Brandi Terry was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Haley Hutto and Emily Shelton added two RBIs each. Nisha Trammell also doubled in the win.

Shelton, the winning pitcher threw four innings.

East Lawrence (1-2) hosts Austin on Tuesday.

Wilson 5, East Lawrence 2: Wilson beat East Lawrence and lost three one-run games, completing play in the Hatton tournament.

Tiffany McIntyre’s two-run home run highlighted the win against the Eagles, while Madison Daniel and Jennifer Schroeder each had two hits. Maria Mask earned the win.

Alexandria Hopkins led East Lawrence with two hits.

Danville 14, Sheffield 0: Bailey King went 1-for-2, with an over-the-fence homer and two RBIs to help the Hawks (2-1) shut out Sheffield in the Decatur Invitational.

Callie Ryan scored three runs, tripled, stole a base and knocked in a run.

Sloan Lindsey scored twice and had two RBIs, while Crystal Carter added two runs, doubled and had a pair of RBIs.

Winning pitcher Morgan Weatherwax allowed two hits, three walks and struck out two.

Danville 3, East Limestone 2: King went 2-for-3 with one run and one stolen base, while Hanna Grace Sherrill went 2-for-2 with a run, a double and one RBI.

Savannah Bolton led from the mound, striking out six and giving up three hits, two runs and three walks in five innings.

Decatur Heritage 5, Athens Bible 2: Chandler Sparkman hit a home run over the fence in the Decatur Invitational win. Peyton Barthel and Logan Wren had two doubles each, while Hannah Olinger and Baileigh Evans singled.

Sparkman registered six strikeouts in five innings, allowing two walks, three hits and two runs.

Decatur Heritage (3-1) visits Priceville on Monday.

Decatur Heritage 4, Ardmore 3: Wren and Matilda Hill singled twice, while Blakely Stephenson doubled and Sparkman singled.

Barthel pitched five innings, striking out two while allowing one hit and four walks.

Decatur Heritage 15, Sheffield 0: Sparkman struck out five in three innings, allowing three hits and a walk in the win.

Barthel singled and doubled with an over-the-fence home run. Wren added a double while Evans, and Brianna Tagle singled.

Athens 4, Decatur Heritage 3: Bekah Voss, Barthel, Stephenson and Hill all recorded singles as the Eagles dropped their opening game in the Decatur Invitational.

Baseball

Lawrence County 6, Haleyville 3: The Red Devils played through the snow as Carson Jones picked up his second win of the year, striking out five in 3 2/3 innings. Jones also gave up three runs on four hits.

Relief pitcher Clark LouAllen struck out one, allowing three hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Jordan Simpson led the Red Devils (4-2) with a double, a single and two RBIs.

Blake Pulliam, Cody Wilkerson and Trace White singled.

Lawrence County 11, Rogers 1: Zach Nichols and Luke Lovelady combined for a no-hitter Friday night. Nichols pitched through five innings, striking out five and giving up one run. Lovelady pitched in relief, striking out two.

Simpson led the Red Devils at the plate with two hits and two runs.

Jones, LouAllen, Pulliam, Wilkerson and Lovelady all singled.

Sheffield 9, Clements 1: The Colts fell in the Sheffield Invitational tournament, as Cole White had two hits and Seth Hamilton added one.

Clements (7-2) visits Sheffield on Tuesday for a doubleheader.
