Informative article, but the photo shows why one should never invite the Daily to an event. The photographers are apparently told to get something cutesy instead of ordinary or flattering. Just email the Daily a good photo instead if you want your event represented with a nice shot of a pretty girl or what the event really looked like instead of a "Gotcha!" moment.
I think thousands may show up for fireworks. I haven't seen a few hundred the last two to three years except before time for the fireworks.
Rebecca is spot on. We used to go camp at Point Mallard every year during the Spirit of American celebration and the place would be nearly packed for the whole day of activities. The pageant would always have the SOA field full of people with lawn chairs. Now, most people start showing up when the fireworks are getting ready to start. I don't really know what has caused this decline in attendance, but I wish it would get back to the "good ole days".
Move it back to Delano where it was really good
