RBC Bank is gambling with its local market share.
Banks are uniquely susceptible to customer whims. The reason is obvious: They offer about the same services for about the same price. Sure, Bank X …

RBC has made it more difficult to bank. They no longer open their Beltline (temporarily on Danville Road) branch on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The business credit card we have from them was divided into 3 accounts, with 2 bills being sent to our home, not our business. We've had to straighten out a couple of other things with them after phone calls to their N.C. headquarters resulted in a "so-what" type answer. We are very close to closing our accounts and moving them, especially since they've let Wally go.
We have five accounts with RBC, and have had trouble from the start with them on different issues. The online banking is not even close as good as what First American had. We to will be making a move.
On the article, you will always have the need for a good strong home town type bank, First American was that type of Bank, and had good strong people leading it, here and in Huntsville with Evans Quinliven , who was also removed.
RBC will take a hit on this no doubt, even though they still have many good people still working for them. Progress Bank will be the bank that will benefit the most from this. They have very good leadership, here and in Huntsville.
RBC really screwed up on this call as they have recently on a lot of things in Decatur. One thing that buiilds a bank is PEOPLE. When was the last time you had dealings with a bank in Decatur and went back a year later and the guy who you thought was your banker was still there. These big banks come to town and find a local bank that has built up their customer base with good ole fashion down home service and have a ton of depositors on their books. It is easier to buy the bank than build a portfolio of their own accounts (and they do not have the expertise to get down on the ground level on a local basis and beat the bushes for the business on their own).
I have known Wally Terry since he graduated from college. In fact, I took him down to West Point, Georgia and gave him his first exposure to consumer lending. Since that time Wally has enhanced his career with value added service to his clients and that's what builds a bank. Most banks would give their eye teeth to have an individual with the character, experience and FOLLOWING that Wally enjoys in the North Alabama area. Not only is he a highly qualified banker but he uses common sense when dealing with his clients. And not only does he give his employer 200% effort in everything he does, he gives back to his community with long hours and his expertiese in a multidue of community endeavors.
Yep, RBC really screwed up on this one and I am just waiting for Wally to let me know where I should do my banking and I will start moving my accounts. Never did like a foreign bank to start with.

Bank Independent has been chosen # 1. I have 2 accounts there and never had a problem. They are open till 8 pm at the drive thru even on Saturdays !!!!!!!!
I NEVER had any trouble with First American but the instant they changed to RBC all h*ll broke loose. They've "lost" my payment transactions TWICE. Had to go to H'ville to straighten it out. Thank God for receipts. One more screw up & I'm taking my business elsewhere. I'm sure it won't be long.
