Golden Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Vaughn celebrated their golden anniversary this year. Fifty years ago, Lamar and Charlene were married at Brookhaven Baptist Church in Decatur, Ala., on September 1, 1962. Lamar is from Dothan, Ala. and his parents were Mr. and Mrs. Jake S. Vaughn. Charlene is a native of Decatur and the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Callaway, Sr. She was a 1960 graduate of Decatur High School. The couple met while they were pharmacy students at Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham. They have lived in Geneva, Ala. since 1965 where they are active members of First Baptist Church and the community of Geneva. Both are registered pharmacists. Now retired, the couple enjoys traveling and spending time with their family.

Lamar and Charlene have four children: Joey (Jamie) Vaughn of Jacksonville, Fla., Amy Vaughn of Pelham, Ala., Emily (Jim) Frost of Mountain Brook, Ala., and Marla Vaughn of Pelham. Their grandchildren are Joseph, Jordan and Jonathan Vaughn of Jacksonville, Payne and Vaughn Frost of Mountain Brook.

The couple’s family hosted a reception celebrating this golden anniversary at First Baptist Church in Geneva on Sunday, September 2, 2012.

Attending this celebration were Charlene's cousins, Robert and Bess Lovelady of Decatur, Robbie and Patty Lovelady, of Athens and Ed and Marsha Lovelady Purcell of Lynn Haven, Fla.
