MONTGOMERY (AP) — State leaders unveiled a “Made in Alabama” logo Tuesday that Gov. Robert Bentley said will be used to help tell Alabama’s story to potential economic development clients.
Bentley and leaders of the Alabama Department of Commerce showed off the “Made in Alabama” logo printed on a red background at a news conference on the state Capitol steps in Montgomery.
He said the logo’s purpose is to ensure that officials know about Alabama when they’re looking to establish a new business or expand an existing one. The governor said he’s proud to promote Alabama’s products.
The governor said there’s a wide range of products made in Alabama ranging from luxury automobiles to farm products.
“We’re proud to tell the world that they are all made in Alabama,” Bentley said
Department of Commerce Director Greg Canfield said the new logo establishes Alabama’s identity.
“You often hear people say, ‘Where in the world is Alabama.’ This is going to answer that question,” Canfield said.
Canfield said it was important to brand the state.
“The advantage is it helps tell the story of who we are and where we are,” Canfield said.
The governor’s press secretary Jennifer Ardis said it would be up to companies to decide if they want to place the logos on their products.
Bentley also released a report from the Commerce Department showing that 38,000 new jobs had been created in Alabama and companies have announced more than $9.4 billion in investments in Alabama since Bentley took office.
“Job creation remains my number-one priority and these figures reflect the tremendous progress we’re making in Alabama,” the governor said.
Bentley has not taken a paycheck during his term, because of a campaign promise he made not to take a paycheck until Alabama reached an unemployment level considered full employment.

i like the logo
That is a sharp logo. Thank goodness we have top notch journalism with our local Decatur Daily.
I hope this doesn't backfire. Given public opinion around the country, I doubt many companies want their products to be that visibly associated with our conservative state. It might be better to use a more subtle approach.
