Uh, yeah - everyone wants to live in a loft apartment directly in front of a jail. Should make for a great real estate ad: "Loft apartments convenient to downtown and local incarceration facility. Deadbolt locks included in rent". ???

Is the old county jail being used.

Why does the annex have to be built in Decatur anyway? It's a big county. Put it somewhere else besides Decatur.

Why not send state prisioner to, state facilities.

If we are under a federal mandate to keep from overcrowding, why not just "return" some of the federal inmates that we are housing to the federal pen? and same for state prisoners. would be MUCH CHEAPER

.

Oh wait.... the county/sheriff gets money to house those inmates. which goes in their "slush fund", while the tax payers have to pay for a new multi-million dollar building.

All of the above are correct.

These are some interesting comments. Just not facts. The money from the federal inmates goes to pay for the current jail. State inmates must be moved to a state facility within 30 days of being sentenced. All of this has been reported in the DD several times in the past few years.

Crime will always be a part of our society. It is easier than working for some folks.

If you will call your sheriff or any of the commissioners, they will give your factual answers to you questions. Oh wait. It isn't as much fun when you talk with the facts.
