Hartselle City Council authorized the city’s participation in the 2013 Municipal Quality of Life Awards during their regular meeting Tuesday, Oct. 9, at city hall. Council President Kenny Thompson proposed the resolution to apply for the award sighting the construction of the Hartselle Aquatic Center in 2012 as an example of the exemplary quality of life Hartselle City Council has sought for the residents.
The Municipal Quality of Life Awards are given by the Alabama League of Municipalities, in which Hartselle city is a member. The awards “recognize successful, innovative municipal projects that improve the quality of life for citizens and add value to the community by establishing partnerships and building community support.”
The council also appointed officers to each of the voting precinct for the special municipal election Nov. 6 to decide if the city should permit the sale of alcohol. The officers are as follows:
Sparkman Civic Center (Precinct 15-1) – Inspector, Rajane Hampton; Assistant inspector, Frances Holt; Clerks, Nancy Busby, Jan Garner, Elise Moore, Kathi Jenkins, Nancy Jones, Tommie Jones, C. Gail McCollum, Mary Morrow, Sherri Peck, Mary Shaneyfelt, and Cleo Stubbs.
American Legion Post 52 (Precinct 15-2) – Inspector, Bettye English; Assistant inspector, Suzanne Nichols; Clerks, Billy Buckelew, Glenda Greene, Allen Drinkard, Laneeta Dunaway, Bobby Fox, Linda Newman, Roberta Stephens, Joan Grantland, Nancy Looney, and Bobby Looney.
Absentee Voting, City Hall – Inspector, Nina Johnson; Assistant inspector, Jane Ann Fields; Clerks, Larry Fields, Matha Tual, and Martha Wright.
In other business, the council approved the following actions:
• The introduction of ordinance 1381 that would rezone the Lektron property on U.S. 31 North from B-1 to B-2.
• The introduction of ordinance 1382 that would make changes to the definitions section of the zoning ordinance, as well as permitted use section of the B-1 and B-2 zones including definitions for “major auto repair” and “minor auto repair.”
• The reappointment of former William Bradford Huie Library Board members Sherri Peck and Cynthia Livingston Roberts.
