Hartselle softball wins two in tournament

Hartselle’s softball team won a pair of games Saturday night, defeating Smith’s Station 6-0 and Hazel Green
7-2 in the Hartselle tournament.

In the first game, Kayla Faulk threw a one-hitter
and added a single and two RBIs.

Ashley Boggs, Sarah Ellen Battles and Haley Jared each singled twice.

Against Hazel Green, Jada Hayes struck out nine batters to get the win.

Taylor Wascavage tripled, singled and drove home two runs.

Leah Stephenson added two singles for Hartselle (8-7-1).

Calhoun 4-2 in ACCC Crossover: Calhoun Community College’s softball team went 4-2 in the ACCC Crossover Classic in Montgomery during the weekend, posting wins over Chattahoochee Valley, Bishop State, Alabama Southern and Wallace-Dothan.

Calhoun 8, CVCC 0: Kelsey Gilbert tossed the shutout and Brittany Brown doubled in the win.

Madison Durham, Kim Evans, Tiffani Chaviers, Kelsey Turner, Makala Nolen,
Hannah Dildine, Callie Bryant of Elkmont and Katie Brazier each singled.

Southern Union 8, Calhoun 0: Cortney Jones of Lawrence County doubled and Jessica Speake of Hatton singled in the loss.

Calhoun 4, Bishop State 0: Brown tripled and singled twice in the victory.
Leah Robinson doubled for Calhoun. Gilbert tossed the shutout.

Faulkner State 5, Calhoun 2: Jones, Turner and Robinson all singled in the loss.

Calhoun 5, Alabama Southern 0: Robinson, the winning pitcher, also doubled twice in the victory.

Chaviers singled three times, Brown twice and Jones once.

Calhoun 2, Wallace-Dothan 1: Gilbert got the win.

Singling in the game were Chelsea Bennich of Hartselle, Dildine, Bryant and Speake.

Calhoun (15-6) plays at Martin Methodist on Monday and hosts Motlow State on Wednesday.

Baseball
Danville 5, Falkville 3:
Ryan Bradford had two singles, and Alston Howard doubled and drove in a run for Falkville.

Falkville 11, Tanner 5: Tanner Evans had four hits, scored two runs and drove home a run for the Blue Devils.

Adam Keenum had a single and double and scored two runs for Falkville.
Dallas Mayer struck out three in the complete-game victory.
