Hatton falls in Class 2A semifinals

BIRMINGHAM — Elizabeth Dowd pounded out 12 kills, helping Providence Christian end Hatton’s run in the state volleyball tournament with a 3-0 win Wednesday night in the Class 2A semifinals.

Providence Christian dominated the match, winning 25-13, 25-16, 25-24. The Lady Eagles advance to play Lexington in the state title match today at 1:30 p.m.

Victoria Crumpton led Hatton with seven kills and six digs, while Carey Grace Peebles finished with five kills and four blocks.

Hatton 3, Mobile Christian 2

Crumpton finished with 19 kills as Hatton eliminated Mobile Christian in the quarterfinals.

Hatton won 23-25, 25-21, 14-25, 25-16, 18-16.

Mariah Cantrell had 14 kills for Hatton, while Sydney Terry had nine kills and 28 assists.

Class 5A

Spanish Fort 3, Lawrence County 1: Ari Kamanski finished with 21 kills and 17 digs, leading Spanish Fort past Lawrence County in the Class 5A quarterfinals.

Spanish Fort won 20-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-21.

Adrien Coffey led Lawrence County with 14 kills, while Kheala Roberts had five kills and five blocks.

Class 3A

Cottage Hill 3, Danville 1: Sydni Shelton finished with 24 kills, five blocks and 14 digs in the quarterfinal loss.

Cottage Hill won 25-27, 25-22, 26-24, 25-22.

Kellee Stiles finished with seven kills and 13 digs, while Megan Luker added eight kills and nine digs. Charlee Anderson led the Lady Hawks with 32 assists.

Sacred Heart 3, Athens Bible 2: Sacred Heart rallied back from a two-game deficit to eliminate Athens Bible in the Class 1A quarterfinals.

Sacred Heart won 21-25, 24-26, 25-18, 25-21, 15-9.

Sara Lail led Athens Bible with 11 kills and Samantha Cundiff had 35 assists.
