JUCO quarterback wants to repeat Cam Newton's feat at Auburn

AUBURN — Junior college quarterback and Auburn commit Nick Marshall has set his goals high for his time on the Plains. The former Georgia cornerback who spent last season at Garden City (Kan.) Community College wants to do what another JUCO QB managed to accomplish.

“Try to bring a national championship here, win the Heisman…and that’s about it,” said Marshall, who totaled 4,237 yards passing and rushing and 37 touchdowns in 11 games at Garden City CC last season. “It’s 100 percent that I’ll be coming here to Auburn.”

Marshall made his first trip to Auburn for his official visit this weekend and called the trip a “blessing.”

“When I got here it was blessing because I haven’t ever seen anything like this before, like bonded with a team as I did with Auburn,” he said. “I know it’ll be a great fit for me.”

Marshall, 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, was recruited by coach Gus Malzahn and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee when they were at Arkansas State.

Marshall brought a large family contingent with him for his visit and said the proximity to his hometown of Rochelle, Ga., was an important factor in his decision to commit to Auburn.

“For them to be able to come see me play,” he said, it’ll motivate me even more.”

Marshall was dismissed from Georgia in early 2012 following a violation of team rules which reported involved stealing from fellow players. Asked what he expects it to be like to play against Georgia next season, Marshall expects a wild experience.

“It’s going to be crazy because I know how the fans going to be about it,” he said. “We’re going to go out there and take care of business.”

Sounds like he's well on his way to being like Cam!
