GREAT JOB Sheriff Gene Mitchell. You have did so much to make this county safer with all the new programs you are implamenting.

Keep up the good work and continue to go after those drug dealers the way you have since the first day you took office.

This unit is not new! It has always been there but only had one person, Lt. Donaldson working the cases. Did you fire her again? Is the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs going to be a neverending source of funding for this unit? What will happen when the funding runs out? Why did you fire Tim Sandlin then try to hire him back to run the jail? Why did you LIE to the good people of Lawrence County and say you were NOT going to hire your brothers? Why are you now buying vehicles from the local Ford Dealership so close to election year? So many questions...So little time. CHRIS PROCTOR FOR SHERIFF!

hey john....always been told....if you throw enough stuff in the air some of it will come back and hit you.

so you dont want to use the FREE money, but rather use the countys money, when they dont have enough to go around.

same with buying cars... when you buy twenty cars and save 400.00 each how much money is that....when you buy a car dont you shop around, or just buy the first one you find.....NOT......

i would hire the best people for the least money, and fire who needed to be fired

you must have been one the people fired from the way you talk, or did they put you in jail

boy do i love busting myths

Hey mythbuster...Let's start from the top of your mythbusting shall we?

FREE money...Nothing in this world is FREE so where you suppose this FREE money is coming from? OOOOPS! You guessed it...The TAXPAYER! The money runs out at some point and then what do you do? More research on your part is recommended.

You are incorrect about the vehicles...Again, more research is recommended on your part so before you begin mythbusting, know what your talking about and present FACTS before wasting mine and the good people of Lawrence County's time.

Hire the best people for the least money...This is a novel concept considering the best people were already employed at the Sheriff's Department before the current administration fired them, hired his brothers and other people from outside Lawrence County, and now are trying to hire them back!...OOOOPS!!...You are 0 for 3 mythbuster...Let us continue...

I have never been hired or fired by the current administration, nor have I ever been in the Lawrence County Jail...Not looking too good for you mythbuster...Let's try presenting those pesky little things known as FACTS before you use The Daily as an outlet.

CHRIS PROCTOR FOR SHERIFF, LAWRENCE COUNTY.

Who is Chris Proctor?

free money is fed money not county money, yeah it is taxpayers money, but not all paid in the county

i dont know who worked there, but you must have a reason for firing, if they did not why not file a suit. in reading this rag over the last few months the people working there seem to be getting a lot of big time drug dealers, and other kinds of crooks off the street, and i like that no matter what county its in.

how can i be wrong on the vehicles....if you save money on each vehicle, is that not saving the county money

and i dont know c procter, is he or she a politician

not all myths are busted, some are proved, but not these

I guess my post from yesterday got lost in cyberspace, or someone removed it because they didn't agree with it. Anyway, it went something like this: Let's try to use a modicum of common sense and hire a woman to deal with abused women. I am not saying that these men don't deserve the job. I have no idea if they do or not, but I can say that most women will respond better with other women if they are battered and abused by a man. I am fairly pleased with the Sheriff's doings since he has been in office, but someone really dropped the ball on this one. Not only will women respond better to other women, generally, children respond better to women. Please don't get me wrong, there are exceptions. But, most children will look to a female for the nurturing, and safety much quicker than they will turn to a man. Guess logic was thrown out the window. I certainly hope C. Proctor is not my only choice for Sheriff.

First let me begin by saying that Chris Proctor is not a politician, he is a ABC Agent from Lawrence County that has been considering running for Sheriff. He is a good, decent, Christian man that might want to run for Sheriff, not for the money, because its not anything to brag about, but because he thinks he can do a lot for the community. Because I know Chris, I strongly believe he would do a great job! Now that being said I may not be the most unbiased person, but I'm going to offer up my knowledge of the current administration.

1. Yes, this unit is nothing new. No, Gene didn't fire Melanie again, she retired because he has already fired, then rehired her, she wasn't going to take that risk any longer.

2. Yes, they messed up by hiring men for this SVU position. I happen to know Chris Waldrop, he's a great guy, but not necessarily to tend battered women. But that's not his fault.

3. The vehicles that were purchased outside of the county were only moderately less expensive than those offered throught the local dealership; however by the time you paid for each individual officer to be driven south to get his patrol car, pay the gas to come back, and miss out on the local tax money that would have gone to the county you haven't saved a dime. And before you ask, no they didn't all go down in one car to pick up the new vehicles, they went one at a time, that's 10 trips back and forth. Again no money was saved, but a lot of county money was spent on all the travel, not to mention less deputies on the road at the time.

4. He fired Tim Sandlin because he needed a slot for one of his brothers and now that his jails going to pot he needs him.

5. I'm not even going to talk about the waste that his brothers are. It would take too much time.

6. As far as hiring the best people for the least amounty of money. ITS NOT HAPPENING. His 2 brothers make as much as 4 deputies would and they do NOTHING. We need those deputies on the road, not piled up in an office taking a nap.

7. No the best people were not already in the Sheriffs office before he took office, but its worse now.

8. As far as the issue of the Sheriff firing good people and not being sued, so you're assumption is they must be bad. The Sheriff has the ability to hire and fire whoever he wants, whenever he wants, he is not held to typical disciplinary guidelines. He can dislike the color of your shirt , or if you happen to be friends with someone running against him you can be told to go to the house.

Now HAZEL, you might want to address your outlandish commentary to Chris, I can guarantee you he will tell you the whole truth, not the poppycock you've tried to tell.

And no, I've never been in jail, and the Sheriff hasn't fired me. I just happen to know a lot of people in high places that do know THE TRUTH!!

Thank you Joyce..."And the TRUTH shall SET YOU FREE!!!"

joyce.....1. think we are close on this one, woman would be nice, there seems to be a lot of abuse from both sides in lawrence county.

2. even

3. if another ford dealership could sell cars cheaper than the local ford dealership, why could the local ford guys match the price, they all pay the same dealer invoice, and it was a state bid anyhow, thats as cheap as they get.

4. dont know tim sandlin, but it would be nice to hear his side of the story.

5. dont know about the pay, but it cant be out of line, because it is set by the merit system.

6. i need a nap after this

7. are there any best people willing to take the job

8. you just described any business that is not union, alabama is an "at will state". i am a victim of the at will part

9. havent been in jail....yet, never been a police, are there any high places in lawrence county that have people.

and last........ TRUTH......ask any politician about that one

nothing wrong with a good debate......

breaking news....so much pressure put on this drug dealer he ran out of lawrence county...i know this because mikey put his but in jail....again

TO R FROM---IF YOU SAY SOMETHING THAT SOMEONE WITH CONECTIONS OR THE DD DOESNT LIKE THEY DISSAPEAR---EVEN AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN POSTED. ASK ME 3 TIMES DIFFERENT SUBJECTS SAME DAY. NEW OBAMA FREEDOM OF SPEECH LAW ----- HE OR ANYONE DONT LIKE IT ZAP DIDNT HAPPEN

go ahead and say it...if they make it go away...the rest of us will remember.....seig heil......mein kamph

I INTEND TO KEEP ON KEEPIN ON MYTH---GOT TO----BBB

John from Danville.

First of all it was not $400.00 but it was $700.00 per car and Sheriff Mitchell bought TEN CARS thats right 10 new cars FOR HIS DEPUTIES AND NOT FOR HIMSELF something no other sheriff has ever did. What did Brian Hill do after he got beat he went out and bought himself a brand new ford expedition but let his deputies continue to drive unsafe vehicles with several hundread thousand miles on them. So by buying the cars off the state contract as required by law Sheriff Mitchell saved lawrence county $7,000.00 thats right seven thousand dollars. Why didn't john carpenter sell his cars at the state contract price. I am glad we have a Sheriff who looks out for the taxpayers money and didn't waste $7,000.00 dollars of tax payer money. Gene Mitchell cares about the people who work for him.

Joyce F That is a bald face lie.

They did not make ten (10) trips down south. 11 people went down in a small van provided by public transportation 10 to drive the cars back and 1 to drive the van back. That is a fact call public transportation and ask shelia bishop.

The county saved $7,000.00 dollars and spent about $500.00 to go get the cars a net savings of $6,500.00.

Get your facts straight next time. Please call and ferify this and issue a correct response

I have patrol cars coming by my house all the time and they use to never come by and Gene Mitchell has arrested three drug dealers in our area in the last two years. I think Gene Mitchell is doing a wonderful job and i dont know this Chris Proctor kid but i dont think he or anyone else is going to beat Gene Mitchell in his bid to be RE-Elected as our Sheriff next year. It has been a long long time since we had a Sheriff who did this good of a job. Just look at all the things he has did for that department and the county.

i did some checking, and the brothers she is talking about were hired by the cout system, not the sheriffs department, so they dont cost any money from his budget. in fact by allowing the court system to pay them, he saves money to be spent on other personel, or equipment. i dont think you will find any four people who would split the pay from the court security officers....

myth ......busted

One brother may work for the court system, but he is still an employee of the Sheriff's department. BUT the other brother doesn't go to the courthouse. So how can he be an employee of the court system? He is always at the Sheriffs office, unless he's at home. Because he's certainly not out patrolling the roads. HAZEL, I'm very glad that you have someone driving past your house more often, and glad that Gene bought patrol cars. I never said Bryan Hill was a good Sheriff! But Gene did buy himself a new car, not the first day he took office, but he did buy a new car. And I don't think he didn't need one. However, the investigators are driving gas guzzlers for no reason. They don't need big, giant vehicles to go back and forth to a crime scene. We aren't C.S.I. Miami, they don't carry around all that equipment. We also don't need 20 people in the office on day shift. We need everyday deputies, not special investigators. As far as Chris is concerned, if you don't know him, then you don't know anything about the indoor marijuana grow. Because you either got your info from the Advertiser or Gene Mitchell. and he lies.

so you want the drug task force to drive marked police cars, wont catch many drug dealers like that, and if you check, some of those cars have been taken from other drug dealers, which i like....cost.....ZERO. all cars wear out, and must be replaced, if your smart enough to find federal grant money to buy them with, then it saves the county money. im like hazel, when i drive thru lawrence county i have seen more deputy cars in the last three years, and i have seen articials about burglars of homes and businesses being caught and put in jail, not to mention all the drug cases, and murder, and asaults. i have not seen this kind of job done in lawrence county in many years. im glad chris was involved in the indoor bust, but is it him, or you trying to take all the credit, remember...theres no I in team

Joyce F from Decatur.

Why dont you address the issue of making ten trips down south to get the 10 NEW CARS FOR THE DEPUTIES? You told an UN-TRUTH and you are not willing to admit it.

Yes the Sheriff got himself a new car BUT not before ALL his deputies had BRAND NEW PATROL CARS. It is ok for the Sheriff to get a new car so long as he is not putting himself ahead of his men and this sheriff has not did that and i know for a fact that others have and the most recent one was Brian Hill who bought a New Expeditions for himself but nothing for the deputies. just buy them someones elses wore out junk.

ADMIT your MISTAKE Joyce. Come on you can do it.

Also you dont know what you are talking about when it comes to the sheriffs brothers. You are just going by rumor and gossip.

HOLY CRAP! I had NO IDEA HAZEL and mythbuster were such big fans of the Sheriff. HAZEL seems a little confused about the amount pertaining to the police cars. First he alledgedly saved $7000.00, then $6500.00 so I really don't know how much the alledged savings are. For the record I never stated an amount so I am not really sure why HAZEL is addressing me as far as an exact amount of savings. The FACT is the opportunity was there to buy the cars from the local dealership and the amount was competitive but the Sheriff decided to use his connections elsewhere with some shady dealings with the money. There you go.

When did the court start hiring security? It has always been the responsibility of the Sheriffs Department to provide security for the courthouse. mythbuster I am going to have to research that because that sounds really shady to me.

For the record I am glad mythbuster and HAZEL are big supporters of Gene but the beauty of our country is that everyone is free to express their opinion, some substantiated by facts, some by gossip...I present the facts as I know them and if I don't know the facts, I find them and present them. God Bless America...YEAH!

well....john i had no idea you were such a big fan of......who.....you seem to be dancing around the pot for nothing. cut thru the dust, if the savings on the cars was only four thousand dollars, would that make you happy. the numbers are on file with the county commision, you could get the numbers from them, untill the commision was hijacked by a republican appointed shill. your main man at the moulton ford store is well known for making money off anybody much less the taxpayers. why blame the sheriff when the ford store could have sold him the same cars for the same price. john, i will sell you a truck for 500.00 more than you can buy it for in cullman, who you gonna buy it from. how can buying from the state bid list be shady. you can check all you want to....courthouse security, is just that, not much pay, for not much work. i think we need to check your gossip trails. fact is this sheriffs department has done more in the last three years to stop crime, than the last two sheriffs combined. that seems to bother you for some reason. i seem to remember that the last sheriff was run out of office for something to do wih women, and lots of money, and the bonding company not wanting to cover him because of this. oh and wait...what about the one who was driving an impounded car and ran into a tree and knocked a naked women out of the tree, which landed in his car. i did agree with you on one thing, but i sure do love a good debate. if i could vote there, i would cancell out yours. i want to see the crooks in jail, and he is doing it.

This whole conversation is just comical. Mythbuster, the sheriff with the naked tree lady did happen, but that was quite a few sheriffs ago. I really don't have a comment on the sheriff, I would like to just say that I personally know Chris Waldrep and Chris Proctor. Waldrep should NEVER be dealing with battered women or children. Ask around about his 'situation' at East Lawrence. I wouldn't wanting him anywhere near a daughter of mine. Furthermore, he has always been a hothead. He has no business holding a position required to carry a firearm. As for Chris Proctor running for sheriff, my non-existent dog could do as well of a job. I'm sure he is probably a good husband and a good daddy, but he has no business being sheriff. I will campaign for anyone running against him. But, I really don't think I will have to worry about it. I doubt it will ever even be an issue.

i thought the neeked woman was kool, a penny saved is a penny earned. spend it on more tools to catch more bad guys.

the last guy got the county sued, and the payout was never released. seems he is still having woman trouble.

What is amazing is that this story is over two weeks old and people are still posting to it. Pretty silly to say the least. mythbuster, your vote couldn't cancel anyone's vote out cause it is obvious you are about as a political hack as your man Mitchell. Again, as I said before, until you live here in Lawrence County and know what's going on then as far as I'm concerned you "vote" and anything else you spew doesn't really matter. And as far as your comment about "the commision was hijacked by a republican appointed shill. your main man at the moulton ford store is well known for making money off anybody much less the taxpayers." is truly spoken by a hack that is clueless about the real world. I bet you were one of those people lined up in Detroit, Michigan on the rumor that "Obama money" was being given away. I love a good debate but you are just getting silly...Good Luck.

as one hack to another........nope....i was in tunica, waiting on my new b m w.....my old one ran out of gas.....think i saw you parking at the shoe...maybe both of us are bored

Roger that...
