Library prepares for annual garden tea
In this scene from last year’s Library Women’s Garden Tea, hats were paired with dresses or pants. Hats are encouraged but not required at the event on Saturday before Mother’s Day. What is required is that everyone has an enjoyable time.

With a hint of spring in the air, a committee came together to lay plans for a special event. Guess what? It is tea time in Lawrence County.

Plans for the annual Women's Garden Tea sponsored by the Friends of the Lawrence County Library are well underway. It is time to start looking for a hat.

The event began several years ago as a mother-daughter tea on the Saturday before Mother's Day. Slowly the tea became a special event for all women. It is attended by mothers and daughters, sisters, friends, grandmothers and granddaughters and even great-granddaughters.

Hats are encouraged but not required. All little girls dress up to have a tea party. This garden tea is for girls all grown up now. It is a time to enjoy female companionship and put reality on the back shelf for a couple of hours.

Traditionally the tea is held in a different garden every year. This year, the tea is set for Saturday, May 11, at the home of Bonita and Larry Louallen located just outside Moulton.

The menu is coming together with fruit, special ice cream, cake and three different teas. Tradition continues as music will again be provided by Larry Smith and Rod Wallace.

Special speaker for the tea is Rheta Harrison.

Tickets for the garden tea are $15 each and will go on sale at the Lawrence County Library in Moulton two weeks before the event.

All proceeds from the annual tea will be used by the Friends of the Library for library projects.
