ATHENS — Limestone County will soon get four new community safe rooms for residents to hide in during a tornado warning.
The Limestone County Commission received two federal Hazard Mitigation grants to install pre-fabricated safe rooms at 29910 Park Ave. in Ardmore and at the Owens Volunteer Fire Department on Glaze Road.
The Ardmore grant is $270,213. The town of Ardmore has agreed to pay the $67,553 match.
The Owens grant is $158,648. The county match is $52,883.
The commission also approved a contract with Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood Inc. to provide architectural services for construction of safe rooms at Elkmont Volunteer Fire Department on Sandlin Road and the Cowford-Oak Grove Fire Station on Grover Drive. Estimated cost of those two projects is $330,000.
