A grand jury indicted a Decatur man after he allegedly sold hydroponic marijuana to an undercover agent in the Hatton community, Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said today.
Alex Kesly Speake, 31, of 2605 Sherwood Oaks Court was arrested by Drug Task Force agents on the indictment charging him with distribution of a controlled substance.
The sheriff said agents began investigating Speake after receiving complaints from citizens in the community.
Hydroponic marijuana is a potent form of marijuana because the plant is fertilized with vitamins and nutrients during the growing process, and has a higher street price, Mitchell said.
Speake was being held in Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail on the drug charge and without bail on a probation violation from a previous drug conviction, Mitchell said.

Isn,t it pretty , the boys in the jail will like this one to be their little bunkie
We need to do more rehabilitating, instead of locking folks up. The US has the highest per capita incarceration rate of any country in the world... ever. And you thought we were the land of the free. Ha. This costs us money folks. Why not flip this around and get some of these young capitalistic entrepreneurs such as Mr. Speake to do something constructive and actually earn us some money instead of continueing to cost us money???
Agreed Jamie. Also, the Federal Government needs to legalize, tax, AND REGULATE marijuana. This would keep non-violent criminals out of jail and create tax revenue. Sadly, Alabama and Mississippi will fight it out to be the last ones to legalize.
