Bet that cop is hot

And... it is still going on. Officers said just a couple of minutes ago that it will be a while yet.

P.S.

Absolutely NO local TV coverage on this. Props to Decatur Daily for scooping this one.

Just let the guy kill himself.

It's over. The man shot himself in the mouth, but was said to be stable as he left in an ambulance.

Thanks to the Decatur PD for all their efforts. Sometimes there is nothing you can do...

Hell now I feel bad for previous statement

John from hartselle is a jerk.

How am I a jerk. Are we such a tyrannical society that the basic liberty of choosing to end your own life is taken away? Don't you find it ironic that the people dispatched to save the man are armed?

John, nobody knows what a man with a gun threatening to kill himself will actually do. I live in the apartment complex where this happened and I am very appreciative of what the Decatur PD tried to do. They accomplished at least one thing, nobody else was hurt.

Let's hope you are never in a situation where you are so emotionally disturbed that you threaten or attempt to take your own life. The previous poster is correct. You are a jerk.

John, not onluy are you a jerk, you are a down right idiot! Of course they are armed. Anyone who wants to kill their selves has NOTHING to loose by killing someone else. Why don't you go toke on that left handed cigarette al little more and think before you speak.

Im appreciative of what they do also. But in the end, the guy shot himself. How much money was wasted and how many people were restricted to their apartments or not allowed in their apartments due to the standoff. Had they just let the guy shoot himself to begin with, that "hot" officer wouldn't have missed dinner with her family.

John, if the guy had just shot himself, this would be a different discussion. He didn't. He was reported to be waving a gun around with the intent to commit suicide.

Now, don't get me wrong. I am a free thinking conservative libertarian, not a left winger. I believe in the right to end ones life if you decide that is what you need to do. However, in cases like this, the guy didn't simply kill himself, he displayed that he might be of danger to others. How do you not get that?

Would you have been happier if he shot several others of us here before shooting himself? That might have happened if the police didn't show up and do there job.

You continue to demonstrate not only that you are a jerk, but an ignorant, self centered jerk.

Oops... "their job"

Another P.S.

This man has a family. My thoughts are with them tonight.

Thank you DPD for protecting and serving our community. Prayers being sent to this family who lost a loved one. No matter what he did or how he died, his family is grieving.

July, did he die? Last I heard he was at the hospital. When he left here, an officer told me he was "stable". Do you have more recent info?

According to WAAY TV:

Brookridge Apartments standoff

DECATUR, Ala. (WAAY) - Decatur police and S.W.A.T. team responded to a standoff in Brookridge Apartments this morning.

Police say it started around 11:30 this morning after they received a call about Greg Vaughn waiving his gun in the complex. When police arrived on the scene, they said Vaughn was threatening suicide. He then pointed his gun at officers. That's when police took cover and Vaughn barricaded himself inside his apartment. Because Vaughn has a history of mental illness, officers did not fire at him.

"He had already announced several times that he was going to force the officers to shoot him," says Lt. John Crouch. "Our officers responded simply by taking the best cover they could. At no time did he raise the gun and point it at the officers to the point they felt their lives were in danger."

Around 8:30pm, eight-hour standoff ended when Vaughn shot himself in the face with a .22-caliber pistol.

Vaughn was taken to Huntsville Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

Don't want to get in trouble for posting WAAY text without a link:

WAAY is wrong on one thing. It ended about 8pm, not 8:30pm. I know, I was there.

Kerry, I was under the impression he died given the area he shot himself. Praying he does make it. I would like an update if possible.

I have no further info at this time, but the WAAY reports seem to be more up to date, even though they were late to the scene.

Never assume anything. Hope for the best.
