TRINITY — For Trey Mathis, the 2013 baseball season picked up right where the 2012 season left off.
After leading all players in the state with 14 home runs last season, Mathis opened the new campaign with two homers, including a grand slam, and six RBIs as West Morgan rolled past East Lawrence 17-0 Tuesday night.
Mathis also had a two-run homer, finishing the game 2 for 2 at the plate. Bryar Terrell had a hit and three RBIs.
Brett Rittenberry tossed three no-hit innings to earn the win.
West Morgan plays Friday at Brewer.
Arab 7, West Morgan 3: Payton Parker, Maribel Delgado and Brianna Thorne each scored goals but West Morgan couldn't overcome a 4-0 halftime deficit in the loss.
Parker added an assist for the Rebels (1-1).
Natalie Mooney led Arab (2-0) with five goals.
West Morgan continues play Friday at Danville.
Decatur 4, Buckhorn 0: Carlos Carbajol had a hat trick in the win for Decatur (2-1).
Drew Douthit accounted for the only other score, while Matt Ackley recorded the shutout in goal.
Baseball (From Monday)
Clements 18, Tanner 5: Six players had multiple hits as the Colts opened the season with a big win over Tanner.
Cole White, Seth Hamilton, Caleb Sherrill, Justin White, Cody Baucom and Alec Van Wagnon each had two hits, while Clay Russell added a double.
Justin White earned the win.
Clements travels to Rogers this weekend.
