Mark and Diane Holman are opening the Mellow Mushroom at Moulton Street and Second Avenue Northeast.

Decatur’s wait for stone-baked pizzas will soon be over.

Mellow Mushroom is slated to open March 4 in the city’s historic downtown at 202 E. Moulton St. next door to the Princess Theatre.

The restaurant will feature a variety of handcrafted pizzas, hoagies, salads, calzones and appetizers, franchise owners Mark and Diane Holman said. Options for vegetarians, vegans and kids will also be available, along with gluten-free options.

“Mellow Mushroom will be a great asset to the daytime business traffic, family community and the night scene,” Mark Holman said.

Original art, inspired by Decatur’s history and location on the Tennessee River, decorates the restaurant. Fiber optic lights, giant lava lamps, a mural on a brick wall made from reclaimed bricks and boat chandelier round out the interior. Patrons can dine inside or outside at a seasonal covered/heated patio. The restaurant will have a full-service bar with a wine array of craft beers, wines and cocktails and feature live music once a week.

It will be open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m.-midnight Friday and Saturday.

Thank you Don Stanford!

I'll wait for the real reviews.....

Thank you Don Stanford? Seriously?? Are you kidding me!!! The only 2 things he did successfully was to recommend Wally Terry and breath air. Other than that he was as usefull as a football bat.

football bat...lol

Tonight (Thursday) was great. Shame all of you must wait until the 4th.

FYI Tony - Greg Reeves was the force behind hiring Wally.
