Moore orders clerks' offices closed Wednesdays

MONTGOMERY (AP) — Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore has ordered that circuit and district clerk offices in Alabama be closed to the public on Wednesdays because of a financial crisis facing the court system.

The order was released Thursday. Moore ordered the clerks' offices be closed every Wednesday beginning March 20. Moore ordered clerks to place notice of the closings in public places inside and outside their offices. The chief justice said the employees of the clerks' offices would continue to work their regular office hours on Wednesdays.

Moore says in his order was necessary because of a financial crisis, which he says was caused by underfunding of the courts.

He said the Wednesday closings are partly in response to clerks saying they need more time for administrative duties.

If the employees still work and get paid then how is that help any financial crisis???

Don't close the office's on Wednesday all together what about cutting the hours .. Close the Office's at 3:00 every day and that would help some ...

life is rough.. the need to make do and live within their means.....

Very rough...for some. However, the members of our legislature will see their automatic PAY RAISE on April 1st. A result of legislation THEY wrote and passed in 2008 - increasing their salaries by 62% and adding the annual automatic increase. Oh, and this was done at the same time they froze merit and cost of living increases for public employees. Sorry, I can't be convinced that the majority of legislators are looking out for anyone other than themselves.
