Actually, nobody should have to seek concealed weapons permits. The 2nd Ammendment grants all law abiding citizens that right. Unforunately, the US government and most State governments feel the need to place themselves above the Constitution and require ALL citizens to violate their granted RIGHT to legally carry a firearm.

Tony, if you buy a long gun you do not have to have a permit. Concealment is the issue in buying a concealed weapons permit. I have no problem with this at all. The question I ask is can you legally carry a hand gun visibly without a permit?

A states law cannot circumvent the constitution.

Ita all about the money...You dont see them handing out "free" permits do you

You may carry a hand gun in plain sight without a permit. Like it being on the dash of your var. But that doesn't say it'll be there when you get back. Shotguns can be cut down to a minimum of 20 inch and can be carried like a hand gun.

Wustion is, Do you need a concealed weapons permit for that?

only a fool would wear a gun in a side holster as they would be the first to die in a confrontation. A criminal would certainly see and compensate. The question is, is that legal with no permit to walk the streets with a hand gun exposed and secured on one's person?

Steve . . ORVILLE is correct. The way the law ls written, you may carry a hand gun in plain sight without a permit in Alabama. But if you do, expect to be stopped and questioned by every police officer you meet.

Alabama, like most other states in the Union is an "Open Carry" state. The problem with LEO's is that most do not have a clue, hence the reason you would be stopped and questioned.

Alabama law do not require a person to " learn to operate the weapon in a safe manner".

State Law says the Sheriff can issue the permit. They say the Sheriff can charge a fee of $1. Why does our Sheriff charge $20 dollars? It also says that the money is to be deposited into the county treasury. doesn't the Sheriff keep those funds for "discretionary use" ? Or does the county actually have a REAL LAW that allows this higher charge? Barlett raised it from $10 to $20 when he was in office. I

Orville. You can not carry a PISTOL in "plain sight" (open carry) in a car without a permit. a Concealed Weapons permit it required to carry it in a vehicle. Otherwise "open carry" is legal in this state.

Reference CODE OF ALABAMA Section 13A-11-73 License to Carry Pistol in Vehicle or Concealed on person - Required

No person shall carry a pistol in any vehicle or concealed on or about his person, except on his land, in his own abode or fixed place of business, without a license therefor as hereinafter provided. (Acts 1936, Ex. Sess., No. 82, p. 51; Code 1940, T. 14, §175; Acts 1947, No. 616, p. 463, §3; Acts 1951, No. 784, p. 1378; Acts 1956, 2nd Ex. Sess., No. 43, p. 336; Code 1975, §13-6-153.)

Chief Free needs to be careful catagorizing those that shouldn't own a gun. He comes pretty darn close to eliminating himself.

The CCW people with guns are not a problem , its all the street gang folk with stolen weapons and all the loonies with weapons they buy underground off the street that worries me and LEO'S . Legal permitted owners have not been committing the heinous crimes its loonies and criminals , thats what needs a crack down. Banning anything will help nothing, only the criminals will have high capacity magazines and semiautomatic weapons. Believe it or not a lot of people consider going to the gun range and firing their weapons at targets a sport , me included. so we should ban golf clubs and baseballs and tennis rackets and the list goes on and on , you can use anything as a weapon even plain old rocks. And concealed carry is a registered licensed owner of a weapon (legal) owner , not a threat to you or anyone else except someone wishing to do you or someone else harm, then you might want to hope one is nearby when the loonie starts firing on you and your family for no reason. One person with one gun could have stopped most if not all the incidents that the news world loves to glamorize. search around for all the ones that an armed citizen or off duty officer have stopped that they do not glorify , because to the media its not news

you can not legally purchase even in Alabama if you were convicted of shoplifting

I said in plain sight on the dash boad of your car is not illegal. You'[re talking a bout carrying it in a car, unseen. In a lotof States you must have the hand gun and ammunition locked in a box and seperate from each other. in the trunk of your car. Even passing through the state.

And also have a concealed weapons permit too.

Orville, it is illegal in Alabama to have it in the car even in plain sight. Please consult any of the websites detailing Alabama's gun laws to confirm t his.
