"The dead person had been driving a car" - I hope not. I understand that reporters want to get the news out as soon as possible but I am okay with a little delay in exchange for higher quality writing.
Other news outlets are reporting that a Decatur police officer was involved in the shooting. I guess I was supposed to assume that since the ABI is involved.
This guy writes in broken english at best.
Go back and read a little slower. It says "person who later died had been driving a car". It doesn't say that they died and then was driving the car. Plus you never know how a story get edited by an editor before getting printed or put online. But headlines sometimes are funny the way they write them and sometimes it is just to grab your attention.
To Lori: please "re-read" that. It says" The person, WHO LATER DIED had been driving the car. there was no need for a delay.. The facts are right there!
DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – Decatur Police are investigating a shooting on Woodall Road, near Highway 24. One person was killed.
Lt. John Crouch says a car was in the ditch alongside Woodall Road. Another driver saw the car and pulled over to check on the car, and person inside. That person also flagged down a tow truck that was nearby. Police also responded at the same time to check out the situation.
WHNT News 19 talked with Daniel Pace, the witness who pulled over to check on the driver. Pace said the driver was irate and yelling, and was slamming on the gas to try to get out of the ditch. Pace said he flagged down a tow truck that was nearby, and saw the officer pulling up at the same time.
Pace said the man in the car then shot himself.
Police have not commented yet on the specifics. Lt. Crouch did confirm the officer fired his gun several times, but he did not release more information.
The car is a white 1976 Oldsmobile 442. Police have not released the man’s name yet.

My original quote was accurate. They have updated the story since it was first posted.
Wonder if his family will sale the car for cheap now that someone died in it?
I'd drive it.
To John from Hartselle and Blumpkin, please remember that this is someone's family and they could very well be reading your comments. Try to show a little compassion for the family.
JOHN AND BLUMPKIN ARE VULTURES WHO PROBABLY HANG AROUND DECEASED PEOPLES HOMES HOPEING THEY CAN GET SOMETHING FOR NOTHING--WE KNOW WHICH SIDE OF THE CHECK THEY SIGN.. SAD
Ha! I just know a good deal when I see it. Sometimes the obituaries are the best place to look for a job.
i agree with william from somerville, please let this man rest in peace and not think of his material items at this time, the question remain why did he shoot himself. he could have gotten car out of ditch with tow driver and police help he needed help emotional according to his friends report about his father just passing. lets show some respect
It sounds like John and Blumpkin are buzzard baptist (the only time they go to church is when there is dinner on the ground or a funeral ).
""The dead person had been driving a car" - I hope not. I understand that reporters want to get the news out as soon as possible but I am okay with a little delay in exchange for higher quality writing. "
Lori, you are definitely reading the wrong newspaper. And I use that term "newspaper" VERY loosely.
Of course, Lori, these posts demonstrate that most of the readers here are clueless as to proper English language usage.
i.e.: "Wonder if his family will 'sale' the car for cheap..."
